Ok name changed to protect normal MN identity.

I swore I would never do a name thread but I'm at the early stage of pregnancy with a long sentence ahead so here are my our ideas. We already have a Penelope and Finnian.

BOYS
Artemis
Wilfred
Felix
Augustus
Tobias but don't like toby which seems almost an inevitable NN.

Struggling to find a boys name I love.

GIRLS
Eleanor
Meredith
Persephone
Arianna
Violet
Thea
Willow
Clementine

I really like Arianna and willow but DH not so keen on those two.

Any suggestions welcome.

Love the sound of Persephone, but the spelling just so puts me off. Like Violet too.

Like Tobias - not sure if they would definitely be a Toby? I think depends on how much your son would like his name as he go older!

Love Penelope BTW

namingnevereasy · 08/06/2010 18:06

Thank you Domestic we love Penelope too about the only girls name we both loved last time.

Good point about the spelling of Persephone it kind of holding me back from loving it.

Tobias is the only one of the boys' names I like.

Eleanor, Meredith, Violet all lovely. I actually quite like Arianna and Persephone too but would be more inclined to use as mn I think.

Mrsmackie · 08/06/2010 18:13

Out of the boys I only like Felix and Tobias - the rest are not really to my taste.

I think all the girls' names apart from Persephone (which I think would lead to lots of ridicule and misspellings!)are really pretty. I think willow possibly sounds a bit like an 'animal' name but that's not necessarily a bad thing!!

namingnevereasy · 08/06/2010 18:14

Any suggestions of names not on our list?

Really struggling with boys names.

Tobias is lovely just wondering how common it is for it to be changed to Toby as a nick name?

OP posts:
Psammead · 08/06/2010 18:17

I think Augustus and Thea fit in nicely with your other (lovely) names

namingnevereasy · 08/06/2010 18:18

LOL animal in which way, as in she'd be a bit of an animal?
I love Willow but don't think DH is going to agree to it.

OP posts:
saucetastic · 08/06/2010 18:23

Love all your names.

But please don't call your boy Artemis; it's the name of a goddess. Maybe Aramis instead - or if you want a god theme how about Apollo, Artemis' twin brother?

namingnevereasy · 08/06/2010 18:32

sauce DH really likes Apollo but that just seems a bit to out there. I know Artemis is used for girls but it's become fairly unisex, I dunno maybe I'm not confident enough in the name to pull it off.

I like Aramis will run that by DH.

I like Wilfred and Arianna best. LOVE Arianna in fact - might pinch it for my own list

LuluF · 08/06/2010 18:44

A friend of mine had a brother called Tobias and his nn was (not sure how they spelled it) 'Biasy'but with the 's' having a 'z' sound.

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 08/06/2010 18:48

Augustus and Persephone? Really?

trumpton · 08/06/2010 18:48

I love the name Ariadne ( not on your list )and also like Tobias. How about Rafe or Raphael ?

lidofabiro · 08/06/2010 18:53

Artemis or Felix for a boy.

For a girl I like Eleanor, Meredith, Arianna, Violet, Willow and Clementine.

A few ideas.....

Lawrence
Reuben
Miles
Frederick
Elias
Tristan
Nathaniel
Maximillian
Elliot
Je rome
Aaron

Clara
Elodie
Josephine
Serena
Aurelia
Coralie
Alyssa
Miriam
Leonie
Felicity
Xanthe
Juliet

Mrsmackie · 08/06/2010 18:58

I meant animal in the sense that I could imagine a deer (or similar) with such a name - a nice animal!!

namingnevereasy · 08/06/2010 19:01

pixiecake I think Arianne might be my No.1 at the moment.

Trumpton I really like Raphael but DH good friend is called that, would seem a bit odd like we are naming DC after him.

Lido thanks for the suggestions.
I like Tristan DH hates it. Both like Elliot but our surname has a few ll in it so does flow well. Maybe a middle name would break it up.

Love Clara thank you for reminding me was on DD's list.
Felicity is a nice name too.

namingnevereasy - I too like Artemis, only to be shot down by the "It's not unisex" naysayers. It IS unisex and would make a great name. I actually made a thread about Aramis once only to be told it's an aftershave, which slightly put me off, so you may want to consider that. From your list, I also like Augustus (it's a bit much though) and Tobias (brother's MN) I also know one and he never gets called Toby. Not keen on Wilfrid, I know one under 5 and it just doesn't sound right. Felix to me is a cat's name, and I'll never understand why it's so popular. Girls list; I like Violet, Willow and Clementine. They're all a bit Primrose Hill, though.

namingnevereasy · 08/06/2010 19:10

Forgot to say Wilfred would most likely get called Wilf.

Meadow glad someone else likes Artemis for a boy, I did once know a female Artemis and always felt it was more of boys name.
I don't care about names that might be products or sound like products after all even if a name is not a product now it may be in the future.

Good to know about the Tobias out there, think it might be my new No.1 DH likes it too.

Don't mind being a bit Primrose Hill

saucetastic · 08/06/2010 19:11

Sorry, i didn't realise it had become unisex. Didn't realise there was a naysayers group also! double blush

Other girls names that i would love to use, but can't because of associations are

Hypatia
Berenice
Atalanta
Loved the suggestion of Xanthe

Read the suggestion of Cassius on another thread, and love that too.
Orlando
Alexander

sungirltan · 08/06/2010 19:20

i like felix and violet. i also like persephone lots.

all of your names except wilfred (sorry) are great

namingnevereasy · 08/06/2010 19:32

I like Orlando but DH says no because we have visited there and may go again. But I do like it unfortunately once DH takes against a name that it no compromise.

I'm quite surprised by many others liking Persephone, it will certainly stay on the list for the time being.

Artemis -- ok
Wilfred -- too old mannish compared to Finnian
Felix -- very nice, goes well with Finnian and Penelope
Augustus -- Gloop
Tobias very nice the nn isn't necessarily going to be Toby

Eleanor -- will be shortened to the ubiquitous Ellie. Much prefer Leonora
Meredith -- sounds harsh to my ear
Persephone -- lovely, but maybe too matchy with Penelope?
Arianna -- nice, maybe too close to all the Ns in Finnian though?
Violet -- MUCH prefer Ianthe, same meaning. Violet is too close to 'violent' imo
Thea -- nice, maybe a bit wispy? Like Theodora though
Willow -- nice

Suggestions:
Leonora
Ianthe
Theodora
Clementine
Lucy
Phoebe
Charis

Hector
Ferdina nd
Alonzo
Cosmo
Lysander
Alexander
Ferdia (hero of Irish legend)

RamonaThePest · 08/06/2010 21:53

I like Felix a lot but mot really the other boy names though Tobias nn Toby is lovely.

Also like Meredith and Arianna.

Persephone is too like Penelope I think?

Violet - people always say "one n away from Violent",I like it though
Thea - OK
Willow - I always think of "weeping willows". These are my all time favourite tree, but I wouldn't want the weeping association
Clementine - for me, this is a fruit

Meglet · 08/06/2010 21:58

BOYS
Artemis - not really
Wilfred - love it
Felix - like it
Augustus - reminds me of Augustus Gloop.
Tobias but don't like toby which seems almost an inevitable NN. - like Tobias

GIRLS
Eleanor - lovely
Meredith - I think not
Persephone - people will spell it wrong
Arianna - not keen
Violet - love it
Thea - not that great
Willow - pretty
Clementine - love it

suggestions, Bruno, Hector, Percy, Constance.
