We have been told we're having a girl but we just cant agree on names- DH is adamant he wont consider anything but Eleanor, but my niece is called Ella and I think its too similar....am I being too fussy cos I do like it...

The rest of the shortlist (well mine as he is being so stubborn!) are Summer, Iris and Sennen (which is Cornish as is he)....Think I might get him to agree to Sennen cos of the Cornish link - what do people think? Too unusual?

Hope we can decide soon or it'll be rows in the delivery room!!

I don't like Iris.It just makes me think of an eye,not the flower but I love your other choices.

LetThereBeRock · 20/05/2010 15:25

I think Sennen would be my first choice. It is unusual but in a good way. It's lovely.

stilletoe · 20/05/2010 15:29

I like summer, Sennen is quite unusual, don't like Iris though.

I know a girl called Eden, which I think is a really nice name, don't know whether you like this one or whether it goes with your surname.

Good luck anyway for the birth, I'm sure you'll come to a decision.

hellokitty123 · 20/05/2010 15:32

Sennen is lovely and relant due to the Cornish link .

(Much nicer than Ellie/Ella, which is so, so common at the moment)

hellokitty123 · 20/05/2010 15:32

relevant

Mae34 · 20/05/2010 15:52

Ooh thankyou - nice to get other people's honest opinions...yes someone else said Iris reminds them of eyeballs, so maybe not....I will work on him re Sennen then!

My first association with Sennen is 'senna', which is a shame as it's a nice name otherwise. Summer would be my choice from your list.

Good luck!

mathanxiety · 20/05/2010 16:13

Seren is nice too, although Welsh.
Steren -- means star.
Serena?

How about Elowen -- means Elm.
Or Kerenza -- 'love'.

And there's Leonora, which has some of the sounds of Eleanor but is a bit different, or Leonie...

Mae34 · 20/05/2010 16:20

I know - I was hoping no one would mention Senna...its my one reservation about Sennen! Kerenza is nice and Cornish and I had also thought of Seren as I was brought up in Wales, so there is a bit of a Welsh link...Decisions, decisions....

I love Iris

hellokitty123 · 20/05/2010 20:34

What/who is Senna?

janeite · 20/05/2010 20:39

Eleanor is gorgeous but understand your cincerns re Ella connection.

Not fond of Summer and don't like Sennen as it sounds quite hard and clinical to my ear, sorry.

Iris is okay-ish.

janeite · 20/05/2010 20:42

concerns - am going mad.

alfiemama · 20/05/2010 20:44

I agree Eleanor is lovely, I have the same problem, Evie/Ava, so understand your concerns.
Eden is on my list and think its really pretty.
Not keen on Summer, Sennen, sorry does remind me of senna tablets, Iris is very timeless and Classic, its on our list but I also can't get passed the eye thing.
How about Rosemary or Harriet?
Good luck for when the baby comes.

Thanks, never heard of it before (and surprised that people know of it
Still think Sennen sounds nice. As does Iris.

Ineedsomesleep · 20/05/2010 22:34

Although Eleanor is lovely, it is too much like Ellie for me too.

Iris sounds to harsh to me and I too always think of eyeballs and never the flower.

Summer is ok but absolutely love Sennen. Think you are right to work on him before the birth. DH got his way both times while I was in the 3rd stage of labour and still high on G&A. Think I would have agreed to Minnie Mouse.

GuntherMcKilocodie · 21/05/2010 10:02

Iris is lovely but becoming very popular. I know three at my DD's nursery.
Summer is quite common (and I don't mean popular if you catch my drift)

Jamieandhismagictorch · 21/05/2010 10:57

"DH is adamant he won't consider anything other than Eleanor".

Sennen is lovely, as are Summer and Serena

RedRoseRibbon · 21/05/2010 11:03

Eleanor sounds nice for me.

LaDiDaDi · 21/05/2010 11:23

I don't like Sennen, my first thought was senna and it's a bit harsh sounding imo.

Eleanor or Iris imo.

gagamama · 21/05/2010 11:27

Eleanor is too close to Ella. It will be shortened to Ellie or Ella (if not by you, when she is at school) so I think that's a no-no.

Really love Sennen though. Elowen is another pretty Cornish name, but would also be similar to Ella!

cece · 21/05/2010 11:37

How about Morwenna or Demelza? I've always thought they were lovely plus they are Cornish (I think)

Mae34 · 21/05/2010 11:58

Hmm - thats a few people making the Senna connection - not good! And I actually like Demmelza but its DH's ex's name- so thats not going on the list!

Eleanor is lovely.
