Allegra

Any thoughts?

I love them but then DD3 is cordelia and DH wouldn't have Clementine

Augusta is ok and I'm not keen on Allegra - reminds me of a car for some reason

activate · 14/05/2010 18:07

well you have

Oh My Darling Clemintine

Cordelia is nice though, has good shortening possibilities

Augusta and Allegra are american rich but stupidly dumb teens

HTH

CuppaTeaJanice · 14/05/2010 18:12

Augusta's a bit poncey. The others are ok.

seeker · 14/05/2010 18:13

Clementine, Cordelia and Augusta are posh - Allegra thinks it is.

Northernlurker · 14/05/2010 18:13

Clementine - an orange, nice but not uncommon
Cordelia - Bit poncy and namesake ended very sadly dead in King Lear - the character has many positives but the dead at the end bit always put me off using it ( I have three shakespearean girls - Miranda, Rosalind and Beatrice
Augusta - Nice but awfully grand for a wee one. excellent name for an adult though
Allegra - Byron's daughter was an Allegra - died aged about 7 in Venice without either of her parents with her (mother was mary Shelley's sister I think) That always put me off it as well. It is more than a little poncy too....

I actually think Ada is nice also Cecily and of course my girls names

dizzydixies · 14/05/2010 18:14

ah but Northern she was the only true loyal daughter and it means Daughter of the Sea with Celtic origins and from Latin for Heart

your girls names are lovely

Lakota · 14/05/2010 18:15

Northernlurker, I just read that as Asda! Thought it wasn't quite in keeping...

LaDiDaDi · 14/05/2010 18:15

I love Cordeila, not keen on the rest.

DumpyOldWoman · 14/05/2010 18:17

Not sure I would call a little girl 'fast woman' - or a car.

weegiemum · 14/05/2010 18:17

Personally I think that sorry, but they are all poncy beyond belief.

Just my opinion though.

pointydog · 14/05/2010 18:18

p;oncey

LetThereBeRock · 14/05/2010 18:20

I love Cordelia but hate the others.

TeamCarlise · 14/05/2010 18:20

Clementine makes me think of 'Chubby Clementine' by Bobby Darin.

Fennel · 14/05/2010 18:21

I like them, especially Clementine.

TheFallenMadonna · 14/05/2010 18:23

I think they are both nice and poncey. Except Augusta - which I don't like.

I'm going to buck the trend and say I like Clementine best.

Northernlurker · 14/05/2010 18:23

Yup dizzy - principled, loyal - and dead. Very, very dead.

Put me off anyway

Thanks for the compliment - I think they are lovely too We got in to a bit of a theme thing. Dd3 would have been Benedict if a boy and if we had another girl (which we aren't - 3 being enough) I think I would have gone for Viola....

dizzydixies · 14/05/2010 18:25

ah we've all got to die at some point though - I have to admit I was a tad swayed by Anne Of Green Gables too

all my girls have poncey names though and I can't wait to shout them in full when they're hiding in the park smoking and drinking cheap cider aged 15

Northernlurker · 14/05/2010 18:28

Any name sounds ponctastic in that context.

Except Sharon

dizzydixies · 14/05/2010 18:29

I shall be using the full first name AND both middle names each and if I'm very cross I may fling the surname out there too

ZZZenAgain · 14/05/2010 18:32

don't like Clementine. NOt so very keen on Cordelia but it is ok, Augusta is ok. Allegra I quite like - sounds like she could have a bit more pizzazz than the rest.

I don't find they sound particulary posh, except maybe Augusta -rather grand but ok if you can carry it off.

oceryo · 14/05/2010 18:34

What weegiemum said. I do like Clementine though.

Northernlurker · 14/05/2010 18:35

Hmm - mine have only got one middle name and a short surname but the first names are quite full of syllables....so how many have you got? I can muster

5, 5 and 8.......

ZZZenAgain · 14/05/2010 18:37

Gussie I definitely do not like though

dizzydixies · 14/05/2010 18:37

including full first names, both middle names and 2 syllable surname we have the following:

DD1 has 8 syllables
DD2 has 11 syllables
DD3 has 10 syllables

and I shall muster my finest weegie accent whilst shouting them like a fishwife all the way down the park

dizzydixies · 14/05/2010 18:38

ZZZen - I agree completely - too much like gusset
