Aslan?

So Aslan, is this really a name? I know it's on a babyname website, but it I can't decide if it's really good or a little bit strange.

Also I keep think of Narnia! The name means Lion too unsurprisingly, could be good for a Leo?

Opinions needed please...

It is bonkers.

ShowOfHands · 09/05/2010 21:34

Felix?

Surprise · 09/05/2010 21:34

I think it will forever be mistaken for Alan. So for that reason, I'm out.

LowLevelWhinging · 09/05/2010 21:34

Agree with janeite.

bibbitybobbityhat · 09/05/2010 21:34

It is indeed a little bit strange.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 09/05/2010 21:35

Nope, not good - esp. if he turns out to be be not lion-like

Oh don"t be silly!

Clary · 09/05/2010 21:37

You can't call your child Aslan.

What is going on? We've had Kermit, now Aslan!

Of course it means a lion. It's the blardy lion in Narnia innit!!

MoneyNoPockets · 09/05/2010 21:38

Different

Alicetheinvisible · 09/05/2010 21:39

Dh knows someone called Aslan, he is from Pakistan

Katymac · 09/05/2010 21:39

Aslan was also God - which makes it even more 'unusual'

MNHubbie · 09/05/2010 21:44

What's wrong with Aslan or Alan?

Love it!

I just know my DW will tear me to pieces if she spots my post here though!

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 09/05/2010 21:46

Aslan = lion from Narnia

Alan = Alan Partridge

Reasons enough, I think!

ChickensNeedOpposableThumb · 09/05/2010 21:47

Rarrrrrrr!

sanfairyann · 09/05/2010 21:51

pmsl I do so love these threads. be great cos you could have more kids then call them peter, susan, edward and lucy. and perhaps reepicheep

mopsyflopsy · 09/05/2010 21:59

Aslan is a Turkish boys' name. Just because it is foreign, doesn't make it bonkers. Although it would help if any child named Aslan had the relevant cultural heritage.

seeker · 09/05/2010 22:04

It's not bonkers if you ar Turkish. It is if you are not.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 09/05/2010 22:05

Exactly, Mopsy - the relevant cultural heritage in the UK is the lion in Narnia. Which is why it becomes bonkers in that context.

Don't even know who Alan Partridge is but I sense it would make me angry to know. What about Alans Moore and Grant comic book writing geniuses? Alan Alda from MASH or Alan Sheppard the Astronaut? Not to mention the father of modern computing Alan Turing.

SirBoobAlot · 09/05/2010 22:19

Please don't.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 09/05/2010 22:19

Alan Partridge site here

You have to watch it from behind a cushion, but it's v v funny!

VengefulKitty · 09/05/2010 22:20

No! Narnia!

MNHubbie · 09/05/2010 22:21

mmmmmmmmmm... At a glance this seems to be exactly the sort of comedy I got married so that my wife could tell me I wasn't watching it.
