Final decision: vote Owen or Rory!!

OK - after much to-ing and fro-ing (now v close to EDD!) we have narrowed our choice to either Owen or Rory - both with middle name Edward. Our DS1 is Ellis Robert - so wanted a similar 'feel' to that.

Any thoughts/preferences between the 2??

Any hidden pitfalls I've missed??

Thanks for your views xx

CSWS, I hate this idea that you can't choose a perfectly nice name if it happens to have its origins elsewhere.
What exactly are we allowed to call our children if we are English?
Crumpet?
Beef?

elliemental · 05/05/2010 13:13

FWIW, Owen is nice. Fair warrior.(nowt weedy about that?)

swanandduck · 05/05/2010 13:24

Rory.

WinkyWinkola · 05/05/2010 13:25

Rory. Much more stylish.

Owen = yawn.

Magaly · 05/05/2010 13:25

Elliemtal, I agree, I think anything goes within the British Isles.. and beyond if you're adventurous. Owen is Welsh, Eoin is Irish. Rory is an anglicisation of the name Ruiridh which is either the Welsh version or the Irish version - I can't remember despite being Irish.

Use the name that you like!

weegiemum · 05/05/2010 13:26

I like Rory, but prefer it spelled Ruiraidh

ILoveGregoryHouse · 05/05/2010 13:27

Rory. Or Ruiraidh if you're a weegie.

pop1973 · 05/05/2010 13:29

Owen

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/05/2010 13:31

What's wrong with crumpet as a name ellie?

I don't actually have a problem with using names with other origins - I just don't happen to be keen on either of the OP's choices, but gave her the benefit of the doubt in case she was forrin.

5DollarShake · 05/05/2010 14:04

Rory

eatyourveg · 05/05/2010 14:22

Owen definitely and it goes really well with Ellis.

Shaz10 · 05/05/2010 14:26

If it's Owen it might sound like Owe Nedward. You might not mind, but it's something to think about.

elliemental · 05/05/2010 16:37

CSWS - now Elderflowerwine, I like...

Names are a bit irrational, mind;

why is Willow ok, but not Oak?
Why are May and April and even Augusta good, but not January?

wildbird · 05/05/2010 23:09

rory

spiderlight · 06/05/2010 00:26

Rowan? ;)

highlystrung · 06/05/2010 07:24

Rory. Great name.

Ineedsomesleep · 06/05/2010 08:52

Oh God not Rory. Its way, way too popular and just reminds me of Roary the Racing Car.

Owen Edward is fab.

ajandjjmum · 06/05/2010 08:55

maddylou · 06/05/2010 08:56
