For a boy. Do you like it or does it make you think of Emmerdale? Discuss.

I like it (and I don't watch Emmerdale).

... mossy as a nick name is nice

scoutliam · 01/05/2010 16:38

Have to admit first thought was of Emmerdale, but it is a lovely name.
Think we're showing our age by the Emm connection.

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2010 16:43

Amos is lovely. I REALLY like it.

Don't worry about Emmerdale, Seth for example is v popular and not suffering for the association.

akidu · 01/05/2010 17:56

Good stuff. Got another one called Joseph and I think the two names go quite well together. Amos and Joe. I like it

Kids in the playground might call him Anus.

What?! I'm just saying!!

akidu · 01/05/2010 18:03

LOL! I might call him Anus never mind kids in the playground!!

I like it

If a child is going to call another child names, then they're going to do it. They'll do it with any name. Take something harmless, like, er John? Ewww John Thomas. Ewwww willy. You're a willy you are. And if it's not the name it's something else. Your trousers are grey. Ewww, dead squirrels are grey, look at you with your dead squirrel legs.

Amos is a perfectly good, rather lovely name.

Amos and Joe go well together.

akidu · 01/05/2010 18:07

I think I am going to like it here (first time poster), been lurking for a bit, but I think you guys are funny and don't take it all too seriously like some other ....Amos it is then!!

Oh we know what you mean by 'some other forums'. We know, don't worry. Welcome to the fold. Enjoy the ticker-free, clean screen.

Have you thought of a middle name?

akidu · 01/05/2010 18:16

Probably Evans, its a family tradition, and it will go well with our surname. Quite distinguished I think. Maybe?

I have an Amos - he is nearly 3. It is my favourite name of all time!

MamaLazarou · 01/05/2010 19:16

'dead squirrel legs'

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2010 19:39

Amos Evans Humperdinck.

I like. It's even impossible to ruin with a ridiculous surname. Unless your surname's Above of course.

PictureInTheAttic · 01/05/2010 19:42

It sounds marvellous. I bet he will have really sweet cuddly chops

glastocat · 01/05/2010 19:45

Sorry, but I think its awful. My first boyfriend was called Amos, and he loathed it, people ALWAYS joked about Emmerdale, or Amos-quito.

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2010 19:57

Amos-quito just proves my point.

Ruby, Ru-bee, fnar ha ha, you're named after a stingy thing you are, a bee, your mum's made of honey she is.

Or Natalie, Natalie. Like a gnat. Ha ha, you've got wings you have. You can fly. You've got the lurgy ner ne ne ner ner.

My name rhymes with a brand of motorbike. That's the best they could come up with. ShowOfHands The Motorbike (but imagining it rhyming, like Juzuki the Suzuki if you will). Occasionally a clever dick would add 'Brum Brum' on the end.

And I think Amos has left Emmerdale. Few primary aged children are watching Emmerdale repeats before their fishfingers. You're safe. Name your child Amos.

PictureInTheAttic · 01/05/2010 20:13

I'm sure that was delightfully apt in your case, SoH- how lovely

LetThereBeRock · 01/05/2010 20:37

Awful.

bronze · 01/05/2010 20:43

you the town bike soh?

bronze · 01/05/2010 20:43

I got bronky-sore-arse ...softening the blow

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2010 20:46

Yeah, except not the shiny bike the boys wanted to have a go on, the rusty wreck at the bottom of the pond that they wouldn't dredge up and use for parts.

PictureInTheAttic · 01/05/2010 20:48

No! I bet they said "Vroom vroom" in much the manner of a young Leslie Phillips. That is the only image of you I will countenance.
