Do you think Keira is a chav name?

Well me and hubby love the name but my sisters think its chav, my work colleagues think its chav, his friends think itss chav and his brother and sister think its chav. I don't see why people would judge us though because I'm an accountant and he's a doctor so its not like we're chavs ourselves. And because she's due in May we've given her May as a middle name, so thats not chav either. What do you think.

Well, as I have a Kira, I'd have to say no,
She is a Kira Daisy (7)

I'd get annoyed at the opinions on here if I could be bothered but would prefer there to be a sticky out tongue emoticon.

She is my angel with attitude and has the biggest heart, she will share anything, puts me to bed and reads to me if I am tired and does the best little hugs.

So nerr....

Nancy10 · 22/04/2010 22:56

Keira isn't one of my chosen names but I don't think it's chavvy. I would have to spell it Kiera though,(slight OCD) 'I before E except after c rule!

padraig · 22/04/2010 23:01

@ Nancy10

So whenever you have to say something is unusual does that mean you say it's wierd? Does Santa Claus travel the world via Riendeer? Is your diet getting enough protien? Do you avoid coffee because it contains caffiene?

Not quite sure that I'm seieng your reason to be honest.

mathanxiety · 23/04/2010 04:57

Riendeer, Padraig?

StrictlyKatty · 23/04/2010 08:11

Keira Knightly is really Kiera, which is the proper spelling. She changed it as she though Yanks wouldn't be able to say it

StrictlyKatty · 23/04/2010 08:17

She was born Kiera Knightley on the 22nd of March, 1985, in Teddington, south-west London. Her name would become Keira as her Hollywood career took off, the change shamelessly breaking the golden rule of "I before E except after C" but making the name more easily pronounceable on a worldwide basis

ninah · 23/04/2010 08:24

horrible horrible horrible
the post, not the name

StrictlyKatty · 23/04/2010 08:29

I just copied what was written on her own fansite! Forgot quotation marks, oops.

suesgirls · 23/04/2010 09:41

It is a lovely name hun not chav at all but then maybe i'm not one to judge coz apparantly my girls have chav names according to some people

debaronz · 23/04/2010 09:54

No, I don't think any name is a "chav" name.

KeiraMaysMummy · 23/04/2010 22:38

Ninah and everypne else that said things about snobbery, I didn't think anyone wasw beneath me and I wasn't being 'snobby' it was my friends and family that were.

@ mathanxiety

Not sure I see your point...

muminthemiddle · 24/04/2010 09:55

If you like it then use it.
Personally I don't and am another poster with an irrational dislike of "K" names!!!!

I do know a Kiera Mae and her mother is awful and for me that ruins the name, but you don't know her so the name will appear different to you.
All names conjour up different images to different people and you will always fine someone saying they don't like a particular name.

Nancy66 · 24/04/2010 15:00

Yep 'fraid so .

FanjolinaJolie · 24/04/2010 22:19

IMO it is chavvy.
