I think they are both really pretty names, but also incredibly popular at the moment if that bothers you

iamwhatiamwhatiam · 04/04/2010 21:12

Sorry, meant to add, I have no problem with popularity!

there's popular and there's rampant. amelia used to be nice. now its so common its just a bit silly. whereas isabella has always been popular, and pretty, so that would get my vote.

dizzydixies · 04/04/2010 21:45

Isabella

CurlyCasper · 04/04/2010 21:51

Isabella

passionberry · 04/04/2010 22:53

Isabella!!

evesnee · 04/04/2010 23:03

Isabella too. I don't like names like Amelia, Olivia, Mia and so on

KAEKAE · 04/04/2010 23:14

Amelia was on my SL of names but it is SO popular it put me off and so I didn't use it. I like both names and I really like Bella as a NN.

Slartybartfast · 04/04/2010 23:26

i didnt chose amelia as a first name, it is dd's middle name, as i was worried it would be shortened to amy,
but i do like it.

DocBennett · 05/04/2010 01:52

My youngest brother was going to be called Isabella Frances as my mum was convinced all through her pregnancy that he was a girl. Fortunately when he arrived, mother got rid of the dresses and decided to call him Gregory!

But I still like Isabella!

Bleatblurt · 05/04/2010 02:24

Isabella, definitely. One of my favourite names.

Magaly · 05/04/2010 08:52

Amelia. I find Isabella quite hard to say. It doesn't roll off the tongue like Amelia does.

Lovethesea · 05/04/2010 10:01

Isabella

iamwhatiamwhatiam · 05/04/2010 10:45

What nn do people prefer for Isabella?

Quite like Bella but not sure.

OP posts:
itsybitsy08 · 05/04/2010 10:52

Isabella is lovley.
Pretty and girly without being wishy-washy!

Amelia is also nice, but in my area very popular. Just the other day there were three in the birth announcments in our local paper!

For nn i think izzy, bella just makes me think of that vampire film thats all the rage at the moment!

iamwhatiamwhatiam · 05/04/2010 10:54

Itsy is that Twilght? Have never seen it or even heard anything about it othre than on here so don't think that bothers me.

Only thing that bothers me about Bella is that my friend says it sounds like Bell end!

Quite like Issy rather than Izzy, but will people get that as a nn?

OP posts:
HebrideanMum · 05/04/2010 10:58

I like both, know an Isabella who's NN is Bella who has a sister called Amelia who's NN is Millie

itsybitsy08 · 05/04/2010 14:38

Yeah twilight, that's the one! the association will probably die off though.
I really like issy actually, more than izzy!
However I must say bella does not immediately make me think bell end!
But then people will always make these associations about any name so you should just go with whatever you feel is right! You will know when you see your dd!

bella has tweenie connotations for me

dizzydixies · 05/04/2010 19:52

ours is Ella and she's named after my aunt Isa (also short for Isabella)

electra · 05/04/2010 20:00

Isabella! - I chose it for dd3. I was concerned that it was too popular but I haven't come across any other Isabellas her age yet although we don't live in London.

Fliight · 05/04/2010 20:01

Neither! oh goodness like we need any more!

iamwhatiamwhatiam · 06/04/2010 09:09

It's ok fliight, I'm not desperate to prove my originality by saddling my child with an old-lady-that-smells-of-wee-name

Fliight · 06/04/2010 11:27

No you are right...Isabella is the Only Safe Option.

Amelia is very nice as well.

I do like Aurelia actually, that's another similar one.
