So excited to finally be able to post this! Just had my 12 week scan so feeling much happier after some early bleeding. This is my current list (note my list - DH doesn't necessarily agree with me on these).

I'm looking for opinions and inspiration based on the things I like. I can't take your ribbing, I've already had DD's name described as sanitary-wear on here

Boys:

Raphael
Emmanual
Reuben
Otis (actually this is DH's choice)
Soren
Theodore
Jonah

Isadadora
Clementine
Seraphina (I don't think I would ever actually use this one, but I like it)
Beatrice
Ondine
Betty/Bettina

I like all of these but none of them jump out at me yet, so I need your validation or new ideas.

Hit me with it

I also love Dorian and Ambrose for boys. Ambrose is v cool I think, especially if you have West Country connections but then I also love Loveday for a girl...Sigh..Hell would freeze over before DH agreed...

skidoodle · 12/03/2010 14:11

Tena

BravoJuliet · 12/03/2010 14:13

I'm not Greek, but I think it's Izmaynay

Fimbow · 12/03/2010 14:13

Raphaella for a girl?

Bumperlicious · 12/03/2010 14:32

Oooh, Theodora and Raphaella, mixing it up a little bit, I like it. Though, despite my looking like I could come from a mediterranean or eastern european country, DD is resolutely blonde, if we had another blondie would Raphaella suit?

The Edith Wharton novel is where I heard the name (though preferred the O spelling, but you're right, she is a horrible character).

Rufus, lovely, but probably a bit in the Stanley/Freddie/Alfie old man style that is ubiquitous atm.

Love Aurora too, but DH refuses on the grounds that she might have a speech impediment and only ever be able to say Aworwa

Lucius is too mean a name with the Harry Potter association for me.

Cortina, I'm sorry but despite being on the cusp of the West Country your names just aren't for me

And any name that starts with a silent letter just has to be poncy

Cyteen, Aphra is a name I have always loved, but feel it may be a bit too ethnic for us to get away with. Though love Aphrodite, but think even I am not brave enough to put that on my list.

So what do we think of Claudia?

OP posts:
cyteen · 12/03/2010 14:37

Claudia is lovely If you like Raphaella, how about Fabiola? You could call her Fab for short

Cortina · 12/03/2010 14:46

Love Raphaella & Raphi/Rafi for short. I think you can get away with it Not that you will listen to me after my dodgy West Country suggestions

DastardlyandSmugly · 12/03/2010 15:37

Clarissimo · 12/03/2010 15:45

OK so only have boys myself so mroe experienced there (4 of them) but here goes:

Raphael Nope, even at a school in a posh area such as ours it would stand out a mile
Emmanual Ditto
Reuben Dislike, always think Reubenesque IYKWIM
Otis (actually this is DH's choice) Really do like
Soren Lorenson
Theodore Like
Jonah Bit of a.....

Isadadora Would like without extra da in the middle: isadora
Clementine Nope, partly becuase my surname is a fruit and they get many njokes about that

Beatrice My Nan's middle name so of course
Ondine No
Betty/Bettina
Love Bettina, not Betty

Not sure what use the random opinions of a stranger are but hey

Really like:
Soren
Jonah

Beatrice
Isadora (this spelling)
Clementine (maybe this one will date a bit?) but love Clem as a nn.

dizzydixies · 12/03/2010 16:14

Claudia is lovely its just a shame it means lame but if you can get past that

what about Cordelia

Cortina · 12/03/2010 16:15

Loving twins Penelope and Prudence!

legscrossed · 12/03/2010 16:18

I reckon you'd like Delphine
just a gut feeling

yellowflowers · 12/03/2010 16:31

I love Clementine

jeanjeannie · 12/03/2010 17:02

Love Raphael and Isadora - also like Soren - but I'm a sucker for a poncy and occasional Skandi name (adore Lars and Annika)

Other poncy girl names I like include
Saskia
Emmeline
Lucinda
Penelope
Hortensia
Daphna

Bumperlicious · 12/03/2010 18:36

Ok, so I am actually compiling your responses into a spreadsheet measuring your responses from 0-4, 0 no comment or don't like, 1 - meh, 2 - like/really like, 3 - love, 4 - if you have a child by this name, or it's on your list or used love more than once

I may have to add -1 for any extreme expression of dislike.

How can I show you my histogram that I come up with?

gingerbreadlatte · 12/03/2010 19:52

Gutted to read that Beatrice is becoming popular I have a 1 yr old beatrice.

Named after my great grandmother and grandmother.

Bonsoir · 12/03/2010 19:53

Clementine and Beatrice are both lovely names.

I don't really go for your boy names.

lydle3 · 12/03/2010 20:00

What is this Beatrice is popular . . . ?

I have a Beatrice she is 11 weeks, she is dd4, i have never heard it where i live (west country)

Funnily enough i have just returned home from Frenchay hospital for dd2 and there was a Beatrice down the ward she looked 8-10, other than that never heard it !

dizzydixies · 12/03/2010 20:03

oohh lydle3, DD4 congratulations I have 3dds and have loved naming every one of them and have several names if I ever get a 4th

gingerbreadlatte · 12/03/2010 20:03

Hi- I havent met any other beatrices where I am too (surrey) so I dont know where they are.

What are your others called Lydle? I am stuck thinking about potential names to go with Bea for a future sibling

PS we always get compliemented on it everytime. I love it especially as it looks like she is taking on the looks from that side of the family
