For a middle name do you prefer Aurora, Aurelia or Andromeda or a similar alternative?

What's the first name and how many syllables is the surname?

Ponders · 27/02/2010 22:51

hmmmm - none of those 3 really but if you have to, maybe Aurora (means dawn? & was the name of one of the old Disney heroines - Sleeping Beauty?)

By similar alternative do you mean several syllables & beginning & ending with A?

hester · 27/02/2010 23:04

Of the three, probably Aurelia. Then Aurora. Not Andromeda.

Is it the A_a thing you like? If so: Amelia, Anastasia, Ariella, Annabella, Aviva, Aliyah, Anna.

Actually, Anna would be my favourite.

hester · 27/02/2010 23:05

Or you could swim against the contemporary tide and go for Amanda

mrspoppins · 27/02/2010 23:09

anna is lovely...have only ever known lovely annas

menomena · 27/02/2010 23:27

All 3 are a little bit over the top for me but if I had to put them in order - Aurelia, Aurora, Andromeda (this one is far too out there for me - sorry!)

Other names with A_a that you might like:

Alexandra
Anastasia
Ariana/Arianna
Alina
Alisa
Alida
Amalia
Athena

What's the first name?

Love either Aurora or Aurelia but really really dont like Andromeda.

mathanxiety · 27/02/2010 23:32

Just Aurelia.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 27/02/2010 23:37

I take it that you know the story of Andromeda - her mother doesn't come out of it very well

foreverastudent · 28/02/2010 00:38

I already have an Athena and want something that 'goes'.

I also like Aphrodite...

I like names with good stories behind them.

Not Andromeda.

Aurora is my personal favourite. Such a pretty, soft sound and lovely meaning.

SirBoobAlot · 28/02/2010 10:47

Aurora. I always liked Aurora, Anya, Ava and Aviva.

Lexilicious · 28/02/2010 10:57

there was a thread a couple of weeks ago about secret favourite names you'd like to use. Aurora and Aurelia are the names I thought I'd name my children when I was a pre-teen. I also think Aurora (dawn? sunlight?) comes from the Sleeping Beauty story (anyone else have the LP with Claire Bloom reading it and the lovely music?). And Aurelia to me means golden.

my full first name is Alexandra and I didn't like it as a child very much (didn't hate it) but it has really grown on me as an adult.

If I now had a girl I would probably go for Anne or Astrid. I looked up a whole page of greek deities and warrior names when pg (didn't know sex) and there were loads of good ones. Athena/Athene is nice, and I quite like Altheia.

What's the first name?

foreverastudent · 28/02/2010 12:07

I like Astrid too. The first name is a minefield, I want to sort middle name(s) first because they will come from a shorter list plus I couldn't imagine giving a baby a first name before seeing them.

What about Astraea?

Would people pronounce Aurora

aw-RAW-ra

or

aw-ROAR-a?

and would Aurelia be

aw-REALLY-a

or

aw-REL-ia?

arf at belgo

thumbwitch · 28/02/2010 12:22

I quie like Amanita as well as Anathema (good choice there Belgo - better than Annagrama anyway)

Not Andromeda. Aurora and Aurelia about the same, imo.

What about Ariadne? Not heard of much these days, good story.

pointysayhiphip · 28/02/2010 12:24

andromeda, oh yes, Please use that omne
