Pretty but slightly unusual girls names....

We are currently toying with either Romilly or Darcey for DC2 (due in 2 wks). I think both these names are very pretty and slightly unusual. However, I don't feel that either of them is THE ONE. Inspiration needed along the same lines please.... DH is of no help whatsoever!!

Squeesy - I know three Rachels born in the last couple of years.

MaggieMaeve · 19/02/2010 09:13

Rachel is very popular in Ireland. It's in the top ten. It's like Hannah here.

BarbaMamma · 19/02/2010 09:15

Audrey.

MaggieMaeve · 19/02/2010 09:17

I like Rachel though. My dd is 7 and there are two Rachels in her class.

Usually, the classic names have the same popularity here as in the UK.. Either rising or falling. Either popular or rare, so Rachel has always struck me as interesting. Why is it like Hannah here in Ireland but considered dated and fairly rare for young children in the UK. I don't get it.

Geillis?

This was my third girls name - not to be, sadly, but loved it nonetheless.

Melisande - A friend has a 7 yr old daughter with this name. It was not a name I'd come across before and it has really grown on me. They are quite posh. Also works very well with their surname.

Thankyou MNs. I suppose when I say 'unusual' I just want something that is not going to be really common when DC gets to school. When my DS (Jacob) started school 7 years ago - there were no less than 5 Jacks in his small village school primary class! I think all the really popular names at the mo are so pretty - Isabelle, Evie, Ava, Isla etc. And yes I probably am looking for the Holy Grail - something similar but not so popular!!!

What about Avery, that is quite popular in US but I don't think so here. Pretty as well.

Smile hi,im 42 expecting bubs no 4.growing up in the 70s my name was unusual and all through my life i was complemented.i gave my boys proper boys names.ones to fit in well with all stages of life but my daughter needed in my mind to have an unusual but not weird name like i did.so i thought and thought and nothing came to mind.one day heavily pregnant i sat watching a bad channel 5 film.it was a film about the war in vietnam and centred around an american soldier and a vietnamese girl hed fallen for.he struggled to say her name so he shortened it! And i pinched it!!!! It was a lightbulb going on moment where i knew it was perfect! Ive only heard one more child called the same name where i live and my daughter is now the most stunning 15 year old with a beautiful name too.pick well and a name can be a wonderful gift.My daughters name is Taya.Star
