That our son will be called Bailey!

He will. Not. Stop. Going. On about it.

He's agreed to read the responses to this thread so please fire away (hopefully not too many of you will like it!).

He'll be after Fletcher next then

campion · 07/02/2010 14:01

When Bailey's 14 or 15 his Dad may have a hard time explaining this name to him.

Just imagine

Wolfblass · 07/02/2010 14:10

I have a freind who's son aged 6 (same age as my daughter) is called Bailey, he is a very sweet, well behaved and gorgeous boy.

HOWEVER i personally hate the name, i feel it's a little Chavvy and is ever so popular amongst the local towns housing estates, i here Bailey you little *, get your ase here now, far too often when around the supermarkets. Eugh!

Oh and a colleague of mine has a Labrador called Bailey - any names linked to pets are no no's for me!

racmac · 07/02/2010 14:22

My dogs called Bailey - its a lovely name

for a dog

mejon · 07/02/2010 16:26

DB and SIL have a Bailey. However he is a Beagle! Not really keen on it for a dog tbh - even less so for a child.

Hulababy · 07/02/2010 20:31

I don't like Bailey, sorry.

Hulababy · 07/02/2010 20:33

OK, seen update:

Harrison - no, sounds like a surname
Sonny - def sounds like a nickname but not a proper name
Carter - no
Huxley -
Bailey - don't like
George - lovely, proper, solid name
Noah - yes, fine
Charlie - love this, like Charles as full name though and Charlie as nn
Archie - I like this but as a nn, and not keen on the full versions

Hulababy · 07/02/2010 20:35

I do like Harry though; just not Harrison

Wolfblass · 07/02/2010 20:41

Harrison - the most acceptable imo (and harry for nn)
Sonny - erm
Carter - erm
Huxley - erm
and erm ..Bailey

My list

George - i love
Noah - fine
Charlie - Charles, nn - charlie
Archie - i used to love, but used too much now

Eglu · 07/02/2010 21:21

I like Harrison and Carter from your DH's list. And Noah from yours

LaDiDaDi · 07/02/2010 21:21

Harrison, I like this and could have Sonny or Harri as nns
Sonny, not as the formal name
Carter, unstoppable sex machine??
Huxley, this is not a name imo
and erm ..Bailey, enough said already

My list

George, this was dp's choice for ds but I don't love it
Noah, like this a lot
Charlie, not for me
Archie, I really do like it but it's very of the moment imo if that bothers you?

mathanxiety · 08/02/2010 03:26

Would he be happy with George Harrison? I think Harrison might be the best of his (very) bad lot. You two seem poles apart on this.

Strix · 08/02/2010 10:42

Do you like the beatles?

Bonsoir · 08/02/2010 10:44

Why did you marry this man? Do your tastes coincide at all?

Strix · 08/02/2010 10:59

Good grief, Anna. I think questionning her marriage is quite a leap.

DH and I have troubles with the naming as well. He like all the traditional names which I regarded as over used and boring. Names like: Philip and George. I like traditional but more unusual names like Stuart or Curits. He hated mine. I hated his. We eventually found common ground. DS has a name we both like, but it wasn't first choice for either of us.

If I were in your place I would suggest we each write down 20 names we like. 5 is a pretty small sample. I think you might get closer to common ground when you get down to 20.

nickelbabe · 08/02/2010 11:12

His list..

Harrison - as in ford? okaaaaayyyyy
Sonny - as in bono? urgh!
Carter - USM 'nuff said
Huxley - aldous? SURNAME!
and erm ..Bailey - bleurgh

My list

George - regal.
Noah - very nice
Charlie - Charles, though is much better
Archie - no.

but, as others have said, the main issue is that you must agree on the name. (or at least one that you don't mind). you can't have a name you don't like at all.

Sunshinemummy · 08/02/2010 14:15

I love the same Sonny but not keen on any of the other names from either list.

theITgirl · 08/02/2010 14:24

I like Harry, Noah or Charlie/Charles. BUT if your surname begins with P - HP sauce is not the best initial combination. I am sorry as that would have been a lovely compromise.

CantSupinate · 08/02/2010 14:29

I don't see anything wrong with Bailey. I know a 6yo Bailey (very prim and proper English parents, slightly mad mind). I am American though, so maybe that explains my tolerance of different.

However unless for some reason it's your husband's turn (like this is your 7th child and you chose the name of No.'s 4, 5 and 6) then I think you should both choose a name you can at least live with, if not actually both quite like. You can't have a first name that one of you hates.

MmeLindt · 08/02/2010 14:33

Harrison nn Harry is lovely.

George, Charlie and Archie overused at present but ok names.

Like Noah.

Sonny - wasn't the guy on Miami Vice called Sonny?

Huxley - no no no nein non

Carter is okish

LOL at George Harrison.

thisisyesterday · 08/02/2010 18:04

i like all of your list

but, I LOVE Sonny.

again, you have to agree on it though.
worth another look through some baby name books I reckon. make a really long list and then see what he thinks?
