That our son will be called Bailey!

He will. Not. Stop. Going. On about it.

He's agreed to read the responses to this thread so please fire away (hopefully not too many of you will like it!).

That is a chavtastic dogs name if ever I heard one.

You MUST NOT call your child BAILEY!!!!

When you are in labour you must scream at him and claw his arms saying over your dead body will this child be called Bailey - trust me he will be so bloody scared that he won;t dare mention the name ever again. (You must have a scarey glint in your eye though and look really manic - well you will anyway but try and play on it a bit too!)

Girl's name.

Report
Wanderingsheep · 07/02/2010 09:41

Yep, it's a dogs name!

I was having my nails done once and the girl doing them was saying to someone else: "Bailey just appears between us in the middle of the night!"

Me thinking that Bailey was a dog asked, "is Bailey a pet?" she replied that he was her three year old son. I was so [embarrassed]

Girls name and not a nice one

Report
Ziggurat · 07/02/2010 09:48

WAY too gimmick-y and try-hard.

And anyway, this...

"There are thousands of nicer names. Thousands."

asdx2 · 07/02/2010 09:49

Definitely all the Bailey's around here are either girls or dogs. A bit chavvy too........don't do it.

I don't think the op's DP is trying to force the name Bailey - more that the op wants him to stop going on about it.

If your surname is Jackson then he'd have initials BJ which I wouldn't choose to give any child.

Alternatively, if Jackson is the name of an existing DC then I think Bailey is a similar style of name.

I don't hate it personally.

I read your title as ""GP is adamant"" And I was wondering who on earth is he to think he has got a say???

I knew a Bailey, he was very , hum, "lively"!

MaryMungo you are not alone, I also started singing "I'm Baaaaayleaf, I'm a gaaaardener, I work from earrrly morrrn" when I saw this thread.

Bailey is a fine name. For a dog. Or for an American teenage girl soap actress. Or for a creamy Christmas drink...

So, NO

Anyway, you both have to agree on a name.

gorionine · 07/02/2010 10:01

NorkyButNice, what is wrong with the initials BJ? [genuinely curious emoticon]

Waaaaaaay too trendy.

Kayzr · 07/02/2010 10:12

I don't like it as a child's name. It is a great dogs name.

You need a name you both agree on.

Report
Eglu · 07/02/2010 10:12

It is much more a girls name these days.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 07/02/2010 10:13

Oh dearie me partner of mummiejackson. You both have to agree to a name you know; its not your sole decision.

Bailey to my mind is a drink (and a yetch one at that). Its not a forename suitable for either girls or dogs to my mind.

Your poor child being lumbered with such a monikor for the rest of his days will absolutely hate you for calling him such an awful name, one that will date and go out of fashion rapidly. He will change it by deed poll when he is old enough you mark my words.

Give him a name he can live with as an adult as well as a child. You have no real idea how important a name is if you are set on calling your son Bailey. Anyway if you like this name so much why don't you start calling yourself Bailey instead?.

heQet · 07/02/2010 10:14

He cannot decide on the child's name. You have to agree on it.

Although, tbh, since you will be pushing it out of your body, I think you should get the final say!

Sunshinemummy · 07/02/2010 10:21

TBH I think it's OK but do associate it more with girls, particularly after Stella Mac gave it to her daughter.

Report
Ziggurat · 07/02/2010 10:24

heQet - as has been said, I don't think he's forcing the name - just that he really, really, really likes it and won't stop going on about it!

Gorionine - BJ = blow job.

Report
Sunshinemummy · 07/02/2010 10:24

Although I do agree that you should choose a name together and that you should probably get final say.

Report
jolufc · 07/02/2010 10:28

After he sees you go through the birthing process you'll be able to pick any name YOU want. He'll not dare object lol.

Report
heQet · 07/02/2010 10:29

has OP said he's not decided on that name? Sorry, missed that. Way I read it was that he was determined their child would be called that, come hell or high water.

Report
gorionine · 07/02/2010 10:35

Thanks Ziggurat that is the last think I would have thought about. I must be far too innocent!

He can´t have a name that you hate.
But-after giving birth, you can have a name that he doesn´t love..

Bailey-not to my taste at all.
Unless in a glass with ice.

Thank you all so much for your messages.

DP is now stropping after reading this thread! I think he does realise that a, it's not a great name and b, it's just not going to happen so he may as well give up on it!

The baby's surname won't be Jackson, it will start with a P. Now we need to think of a name we agree on. He tends to go for names that sound like surnames whereas I'd be more happy with a James or a George! He likes Harrison so maybe Harry will be a compromise..

Bailey is a bit dull. Sounds like it is trying to be something, but not sure what ... result is blah.

If it make me think of anything, it's '80s American preppies. Girl ones.
