I'm American and it is totally the sort of name my countrywomen who live in McMansions and work out and tan all the time and wear Uggs would choose for their daughters. Only they'd spell it Bailee or similar.

Sample sentence: "OMG, I TOTALLY need to get my nails done before we go out. I'm thinking I'll tan at the gym and then I could go, if you could watch Peyton and Baylee?"

So that's a definite NO from me.

You are certainly poles apart. You need to find a name you both agree on but isn't either of your favourites. That is what happened for DS1 and DS2 with us! My DH and I also poles apart re boys names too!

I don't see anything wrong with Bailey. I know a 6yo Bailey (very prim and proper English parents, slightly mad mind). I am American though, so maybe that explains my tolerance of different.

However unless for some reason it's your husband's turn (like this is your 7th child and you chose the name of No.'s 4, 5 and 6) then I think you should both choose a name you can at least live with, if not actually both quite like. You can't have a first name that one of you hates.

I like Harry, Noah or Charlie/Charles. BUT if your surname begins with P - HP sauce is not the best initial combination. I am sorry as that would have been a lovely compromise.

but, as others have said, the main issue is that you must agree on the name. (or at least one that you don't mind). you can't have a name you don't like at all.

Good grief, Anna. I think questionning her marriage is quite a leap.

DH and I have troubles with the naming as well. He like all the traditional names which I regarded as over used and boring. Names like: Philip and George. I like traditional but more unusual names like Stuart or Curits. He hated mine. I hated his. We eventually found common ground. DS has a name we both like, but it wasn't first choice for either of us.

If I were in your place I would suggest we each write down 20 names we like. 5 is a pretty small sample. I think you might get closer to common ground when you get down to 20.
