emerald or cecily

due very soon at last found 2 names we love
emerald or cecily and could live with either but not sure which to go with. only minor problem with cecily is its meaning that is dim sighted or blind but thats not a huge problem
up till 2 days ago cecily was my favourite but couldnt get dh to agree so kept trawling name books and came with emerald which i now love as much if not more as the name cecily.
dh now loves cecily as his parents like it
but he also likes emerald and could live with it.
other dcs are
bethany
blake
lydia
tudor
leighton
tabitha and
gabriel
which name goes best with these etc
sorry not my first post but getting desperate and as this is probably the last dc really want to get it right

Emerald. Stylish name and nice nn potential. Nice to finish with a flourish.

Cecily or Cecile. Not Emerald please.

Wow, they sound like two completely opposite types of name. Definitely Cecily, it's a classic, beautiful name. Emerald sounds pretty naff to my ears, like you thought Ruby was too common and tried a bit too hard to be "different". And, if you're bothered by meanings, Emerald is the birthstone for May.

Fanfare no wasnt trying to hard and dont usually like jewel names like pearl ruby etc it was a combination of being on hols in ireland last june and ws pregnant when we came home also due round st patricks day and just felt right and the more i thought about it and said it the more i liked it also nn emmie em appeals

Cecily = unusual but classic, sweet and sophisticated.
Emerald = a bit Ratners. She will be the loud mouth in the class.

I think Cecily goes best with your other children's names - you could use Cecily Emerald if you wanted to include both?

What happened to calling this one Martha/Miriam?

se13mummy martha miriam just deednt feel right like both names but didnt love them and also dc werent keen so went back to the name book

How about Esme/Esmerelda instead of Emerald, I know a gorgeous Esme, it's a fab name.

unfortunately dh doesnt like esme have mentioned it too him previously and esmerelda reminds me of the disney film hunchbak of notredame

Hmmmn - now i originally thought Emerald but Cecily has really grown on me and i think it flows brilliantly with your others dc's names (btw i too have a Gabriel - and would love a Tabitha but OH loathes it )

WOLFBLASS really annoying when oh loathes a name you love i had the same with cecily until a few days ago . also the way through gabriels pregnancy he was to be hayden had mentioned the name gabriel but dh had laughed out loud and virtually said over my dead body but when he arrived he looked nothing like a hayden and dh suddenly decided he liked gabriel and now he couldnt be anything else . so dont give up on tabitha just yet

You have had 7 babies, and I think you deserve the privilege of naming the last one after all that.

I vote NO to Emerald. It's pretentious and silly (sorry ) But I love Cecily/Cecile/Cecilia.

I actually vetoed Gabriel when pg with DD (now 6), funny how the tables turn hey! I adore the name now and our Gabriel could not be anything else

He just keeps saying Cat, Cat, Cat when i say Tabitha....

OH says Emerald and i prefer Cecily - i think Cecily Emerald would be beautiful!

my other half kept saying tabby cat i dont know what changed but by the name she was born he was fine and honestly she has never been teased using tabby cat. occasionaly she gets like the girl in bewitched who twitches her nose but thats from parents not children

Cecily definatly! and because you were worried about name associations here's a good one: you could plant her a lovely herb garden full of delicious 'sweet scented cecily!' a lovely almost licorice flavoured herb... a native hedgrow plant.

Have you considered Beryl? Add chromium to beryl and you get an emerald.

Not sure if anyone else has suggested this: what about the name Celia? It sounds lovely, and is a bit like Cecily. You might like it.
