Delphine?

I'm not pg but we are trying later this year. But to keep my broodiness in check I am looking at baby names.

I really like Daphne but it is out of the question as we have a Freddie.

But I have just come across Delphine and I love it.

What does everyone else think?

I prefer Daphne.

Why can you not have a Daphne when you have a Freddie?

Kayzr · 04/02/2010 11:54

I guess you have never seen Scooby Doo. I refuse to do that to my children.

There's a Delphine on Peppa Pig

I think its a lovely name

Kayzr · 04/02/2010 12:24

Oh yes!! That is where I know it from.

Ah, sorry, I did not make the connection to Scooby Doo.

Kayzr · 04/02/2010 12:32

Yeah I didn't at first either, then DH pointed it out.

So unfair!!

It is a lovely name but I automatically hear Delphine Donkey.... from Peppa pig

LadyCressida · 04/02/2010 17:37

My grandma's name was Delphine, and I think it's lovely. She was called Del, and Delo when she was little, but I think you could also be called Delphi. I've never heard of anyone else called it - it might be popular in France though.

I think it is a very sweet name - actually I'd be tempted to use it myself but my surname begins with D so don't think it works...

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 04/02/2010 17:45

I'm shocked, I am pregnant and due in May, this is our name if we have a girl! I finally thought I was being creative and unusual but not enough it seems

I do love it though.

UnrequitedSkink · 04/02/2010 17:54

I like Delhpine - reminds me of Delphiniums - but hate the shortening to 'Del' which she'd invariably get at school...

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 04/02/2010 17:56

Or Phin?

Littlefish · 04/02/2010 18:00

Delphine Donkey on Peppa Pig is my first thought.

I think the name is really pretty though.

Ineedsomesleep · 04/02/2010 18:01

Love it.

mathanxiety · 04/02/2010 22:34

I had an older generation lady in my (Irish) family whose name was Delphine -- at least two generations back. I think you can use Fifi as a nn too...

I love the name, also love Daphne (but I agree you couldn't have Daphne and Freddie).

I like it. I wouldn't worry about the Delphine Donkey thing, my DD is an avid Peppa Pig fan and I've only ever seen one episode with Delphine Donkey in it, it's not like you're calling her Peppa!

Anyway, I'm one to talk, DD is Polly Parrot

suwoo · 05/02/2010 12:34

I had Delphine on my girls name list for DC3 who is a he.

minipie · 05/02/2010 12:35

I like it. But people will assume she's French (not necessarily a bad thing, but could get a bit dull). Also not sure there is a good short form... I prefer it to Daphne.

joanne34 · 05/02/2010 13:27

Delphine is a such pretty name.

Wolfblass · 05/02/2010 13:30

Delphine is lovely

skidoodle · 05/02/2010 13:33

Love it.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 05/02/2010 14:06

skidoodle - were you skidaddle in a previous life?
