Love the name, go for it.

Bucharest · 04/02/2010 08:17

It's not nice.
It's flat cap and whippets and the bloke who ran off with the Christmas club money on 'Enders.

belgo · 04/02/2010 08:25

Bucharest that was 20 years ago!

Apart from that association, it's a lovely name.

MaggieTaSeFuar · 04/02/2010 08:28

A lot of people obviously love it but I don't. It's one of those names that is so ugly that it shows bravery to use it and i think that is it's 'appeal'. It's becoming very popular now so not brave any more or course.

What about Donald or Victor or Howard? an old man name that isn't so popular or ugly?

Hulababy · 04/02/2010 08:29

I like it

Was an Arthur in my family. He died rather young when I was a baby so have no real memories of my own. However I can assure you he was definitely not of the flat claps variety.

Honeypeckle · 04/02/2010 08:30

I think it's cute...you can call him Arty

Hulababy · 04/02/2010 08:30

Msggie, I don't think Arthur is ugly at all. Your alternatives are, to me, not nicer at all - quite the opposite for me.

MaggieTaSeFuar · 04/02/2010 08:33

I said that 'a lot of people obviously love it'.
My alternatives are a lot nicer!

Hulababy · 04/02/2010 08:44

lol; good job everyone is different

BendyBob · 04/02/2010 08:49

I rather like it. And Arty or Art.

I'm not keen on the whole retro name thing but Arthur - yes like it!

BosomsByTheSea · 04/02/2010 09:11

STOP with the Arthur threads!!

When we chose it for DS we'd never met an Arthur under 70!

Now it pops up weekly! We really didn't want a name that shouted 'next big thing' - just had a much-loved Great Uncle Art.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 04/02/2010 09:14

I like it. We have a friend called Arthur who's 26 and it's never seemed weird at all.

BonjourIvressedeNoel · 04/02/2010 10:15

King Arthur - great link

TellMeWhatToDo · 04/02/2010 10:18

I really think it is "the next big thing", I hear people talking about it all the time. Although not many actually go for it in the end. I do think that for a lot of people it's just a bit too old duffer.

randomimposter · 04/02/2010 13:29

boodle you have BRILLIANT taste.... Arthur is a TOP name. Was my dear dad's name, and is DS middle name.

Do it, do it, DO IT!!!

thanks jollster....no one ever tells me i have great taste in names ha ha....especially not on MN

it, along with George, which i know is quite boring but i just love, are the front runners...i've come to the conclusion from having to spoken to lots of my and DH's male friends that they think 'poncey' or madeup names are the curse of the devil himself.....they all seem to have, and like straight sensible names....DH just looked at me rather smugly and said 'see, best we call him David like me....'

I think Art is rather cool. Go for it.

Snowtiger · 05/02/2010 08:31

Bosoms I'm with you, my DS is Arthur and I chose it (among other reasons) because I didn't want a really popular name like Archie or Alfie.

Wish other people would leave the name alone personally!

morethanyoubargainfor · 05/02/2010 08:41

i love it, and in fact when my ds was around 4 the convo went like this,

DS; who decided to cal me
ME; Mummy and Daddy did
DS why?
ME: because we really liked that name, do you like it?
DS: Well yes but if you hadn't choosen that name i think you should of called me Arthur! I Love that name as well mummy.

.
