What do you think of this, and if we use Joseph James will some people call him JJ?

Joseph is a lovely name.

Would have been my top name for a boy but the nn goes dreadful with our surname, King

I think people are more likely to shorten Jospeh than Joseph James to JJ unless you were the ones to start it. Middle names tend to not get used after a while otherwise.

tothesea · 01/02/2010 09:43

Love love love it (biased emoticon)

GhoulsAreLoud · 01/02/2010 11:36

Excellent, thanks.

I am not at all keen on JJ but like Joe.

Most people other than family won't know the middle name either I guess and I can't see my family saying JJ. People keep warning me about that though!

Yes, absolutely love Joseph (Joe)

I have boy/girl twins and my DD Sophie would have been Joseph if a boy (DS is Daniel)

MadameDefarge · 01/02/2010 12:15

I've got a Joseph...whose surname also starts with J. Sounds great.

weaselbudge · 01/02/2010 13:57

My DH is called James and his family all call him JJ even though his middle name doesn't begin with J! The reason for this is that they didn't like the nickname jim or jamie and felt he needed a "pet" name when he was little and it stuck. I guess what I'm saying is that unless it is the family who start the nickname, a nickname revolving around the middle name is unlikely to be started by "outsiders" because noone ever really knows other people's middle names. So if you don't want him to be called "JJ" don't start calling him it!
Love the names joseph and james too.

zozzle · 01/02/2010 14:12

Lovely strong name! Biblical too which gets my vote

zozzle · 01/02/2010 14:13

BTW - I love JJ too.

GhoulsAreLoud · 01/02/2010 14:19

Thanks all.

I was expecting a few "it's a bit 'meh', what about Raphael?" responses.

But there is still time! Don't even find out the sex for a fortnight so might well be back soon looking for some girls names.

Joseph was top of my list of boys' names - I have two daughters though!

Love love love it, and love Joe as nn too.

I doubt he'd get JJ unless you wanted it, ime people focus on first names, middle names are rarely used.

My theoretical son was called Joseph Robert if that helps at all

hester · 01/02/2010 14:30

Joe/Joseph is the coolest name in the world. Was top of my list of boy's names.
Not keen on JJ...

GhoulsAreLoud · 01/02/2010 17:21

Excellent, thanks, I am reassured about the JJ thing. A few people have said if he is Joseph James he will be known as JJ but I don't see that most people would know the middle name and I'm sure I could develop a 'look' to warn people off it if they tried.

This is our joint boys name along with William, quite like Joe or Will and may combine the two names, just getting lots of comments about how common it is. Thats putting me off but we cant agree on anything else.

PuppyMonkey · 01/02/2010 17:30

I have a brother called Joseph (born on Christmas day, geddit~??) and a cousin called JJ (John James). Like all of them! And the names too.

Saucepanman · 01/02/2010 17:30

I love Joseph, it is my favourite name, and what we called our ds1 who was stillborn. It brings a smile to my face every time I hear it, as I don't get to say it enough. Love Joseph James, and JJ too

OrmRenewed · 01/02/2010 17:34

My youngest is Joseph James So far he's not been JJ.

MrsWillis · 01/02/2010 22:44

I have a Joseph and I still love it. I decided when I was about 14 that my first DS would be called Joseph.

He gets Joe most of the time though.

GhoulsAreLoud · 02/02/2010 19:59

just a quick bump

Love it. Top of my current list for a future male DC. That's several years away though. Would use Joe as nickname as well.

pointydog · 02/02/2010 20:33

Good name. Two good names

loobylu3 · 02/02/2010 20:34

Love Joseph. Less keen on JJ but I don't think other people will use this nn unless you do.

snickersnack · 02/02/2010 20:35

I adore Joseph. Lots of Josephs in our family and I have one too. Does get shortened to Jojo - could you live with that?

snickersnack · 02/02/2010 20:36

saucepanman I am so sorry about your Joseph.

GhoulsAreLoud · 02/02/2010 20:41

saucepanman oh I'm so sorry too about your DS.
