Girls names - what do you prefer?

Hi everyone

Am 38+2 and having a bit of a dilemma with girls' names. We had settled on Ivy if we have a girl but I have just seen a discussion on mn where most have said they are not keen on it or made the link with Poison Ivy!

Very new to mn and don't know how to create a poll so if you could just give me your thoughts on the following combinations I would be very grateful. We already have a son, Elliot. I also like Rowan, but not sure about using it because it is unisex and don't want her to be addressed as Mr!

Thanks! xxx

Ivy Rowan
Rowan Olivia
Olivia Rowan

Or any others you would like to suggest - still open to new names!

Personally I am not keen on Ivy, but it is not my decision it is yours, if you like it, go for it.

I like Susannah Rowan

or Lucy Rowan

Esmee · 26/01/2010 15:47

I'm not too keen on Ivy Rowan because I just think that two 'nature' names together is a bit much.

I like both Rowan Olivia and Olivia Rowan though! Or how about Olivia Ivy? Or maybe Olivia Iris?

jaylola · 26/01/2010 15:50

I like Olivia Rowan!! Lovely name xx

CuppaTeaJanice · 26/01/2010 15:51

I really like Rowan, and I don't think there should be a problem with being addressed as a man. Loads of names are unisex - there's a female Elliot in Scrubs!!

I think Olivia's a bit dull, and I much prefer Ivy. Have you thought about spelling it Ivie? Less obvious link to poison/old ladies/dinnerladies.

My vote goes to Rowan Ivie.

loobylu3 · 26/01/2010 19:54

I really like the name Ivy. If you love it, I don't think you should be put off.
I don't think the combo Ivy Rowan sounds great because, as someone else says, they are both nature names.

Ivy Katherine, Ivy Sophia, Ivy Susanna, Ivy Louise, Ivy Genevieve.

Olivia is v pretty but is very popular if that bothers you.

I'm not keen on Rowan myself as I don't usually like unisex names.

Good luck!

janeite · 26/01/2010 19:56

I like Olivia Rowan best. Don't much like Ivy, sorry.

janeite · 26/01/2010 19:57

Generally I see Rowan as a male name though (we wanted it for dd2, had she been ds).

Heated · 26/01/2010 20:01

Know more boys named Rowan and having a brother with a unisex names I know how much it used to irk when ppl made assumptions.

I'm not overwhelmed by Ivy either tbh, I suppose because it's such a clingy and destructive plant! I regularly battle ivy from next door's garden so am probably never going to be kindly disposed to it.

I like other natural names much more e.g Iris, Laurel, Poppy, Camille, Fern, Lilac, Posey, Tansy much more

compo · 26/01/2010 20:02

Olivia can be Livvy which is nice

Pingpong · 26/01/2010 20:50

I prefer Rowan to Ivy and I prefer it as a girls name to being used for a boy.
I think Ivy Rowan is too planty when used together but think that Rowan Olivia is lovely

thisisyesterday · 26/01/2010 21:09

I love Ivy

sweetkitty · 26/01/2010 21:39

I'm not keen on Ivy sorry

Rowan sounds male to me

Let me think
Olivia is lovely
Iris
Erin
Poppy
Daisy

Hulababy · 27/01/2010 11:29

I like Olivia Rowan best

cakeandwine · 27/01/2010 12:27

Ivy is a lovely name, and so is Ivy Rowan. I love Olivia too. But Ivy more unusual! Good luck!

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/01/2010 12:41

Philippa (Pippa) Rowan

KAEKAE · 28/01/2010 21:22

I know a few people that have named their little ones Ivy..I think it is okay, but I don't think it is a name I would use.

Hi everyone

Thanks for all your comments. I would have replied earlier but I have been busy giving birth! Am so glad I posted my doubts on here, as completely went off Ivy after seeing the responses. We did have a girl and actually in the end we went for something completely different, ha ha! Alice Kate arrived on Friday. She was nearly Olivia, but Alice is one that my husband thought of last week and we liked it. Kate is my middle name.

Thanks again everyone xx

Congratulations!

zozzle · 01/02/2010 14:19

I like Ivy. Olivia is too popular and middle class for me - prefer names that are used across the classes.

zozzle · 01/02/2010 14:21

Sorry - Congrats - didn't read that you've had Alice Kate. Nice name.

Rachybabes · 04/02/2010 13:27
