Girl - but "try too hard"

tegan · 27/12/2009 07:12

it's beautiful for a gorl or boy. my dd1 watches a programme on disney and the girl in that is harper

MaggiesManifesto2010 · 27/12/2009 12:08

I wouldn't know. Maybe girl if they were American, but not sure. And boy if they were from GB...

I know it's a reference from TKAMB, but it's trying too hard.

Jem would be nice for a girl or a boy.

Our son was born in April 2009 and after much deliberation we named him Harper. We loved the name and found that that it really suited him. I've never met another Harper, which is surprisingly refreshing, and find that I love the name more and more as time goes by. Love it, love it, love it...... especially for a boy.

bruffin · 31/12/2009 10:26

To be honest thinking of it the name reminds me too much of a Harpy from greek mythology.

noddyholder · 31/12/2009 10:32

I think its both I know a girl and a boy

frazzledoldbag · 01/01/2010 15:56

Girl. I like it.

I am afraid I'd think cleaning product.

maamalady · 01/01/2010 23:27

Surname, or possibly "someone who plays the harp". And as bruffin says - a harpy!

Kingsroadie · 02/01/2010 08:54

Girl, like Harper Lee. I know a baby girl called Harper actually...

OrangeAnge · 03/01/2010 09:35

Girl - I know a little Harper (aged 7) It is an American name but there are a few more creeping in over here too.

I wasn't sure when I first heard it but I think it's very cute now. It doesn't get shortened to anything (at the moment at least)

Just looking it up now I see that it is a girl or a boys name, is actually Old English in derivative and means 'one who plays the harp'!

Mummyto3plusbump · 03/01/2010 09:43

girl

bluellsx · 13/03/2010 20:43

Our daughter is due in 7 weeks time, she's going to be Harper. A unique and elegant name for a girl in my opinion!

MrFibble · 13/03/2010 20:45

girl

HelenDoula · 13/03/2010 23:32

Girl, for sure ! beautiful strong name ! I would shortlist it if I was to have another.

UnrequitedSkink · 13/03/2010 23:35

I know a 4-year-old Harper and she's gorgeous and bright and original. Lives in Crouch End though, and you HAVE to have an original name round there.

marmum · 14/03/2010 23:23

Girl. It's a lovely girl's name as well. I think of To Kill a Mockingbird too- one of my favourite books growing up.

MrsDippers · 14/03/2010 23:25

HarperRedbin would be good name for a girl.

Missus84 · 14/03/2010 23:27

Girl, like Harper Lee (though I think her name was actually Nancy). Very American though.

TiggyD · 14/03/2010 23:31

Could be either. It is a surname though.

remaincalm · 15/03/2010 19:06

I would think boy but it is one of my friend's surnames.

annasophia · 15/03/2010 19:50

I wouldn't think anything - I'd wait to meet him or her .

AshleyFanjo · 15/03/2010 20:08

It's top of my list for a boys name - I love it. It is also a girls name but not so much, a bit like how the name Jordan is used.

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 15/03/2010 20:12

Harper Lee was indeed female, but her first name was Nelle. The Harper bit was surname - the American thang of girls using maiden names for middle names.
