Boy.

There is one in DD's class.

Clary · 23/12/2009 21:55

girl because of Harper Lee.

All the ones I have known (of) have been girls.

at all of you who didn't know Harper Lee was a woman. That's sooo a book by a woman!

Poohbearsmom · 23/12/2009 22:00

I thought boy at first look... Nothing against the name personally but def has a real american ring to it

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 23/12/2009 22:08

American WASP

sleepsforwimps · 24/12/2009 10:35

Girl

ImSoNotTelling · 24/12/2009 10:48

Surname. I know people with that surname.

gorionine · 24/12/2009 10:50

surname or girl

auliana · 24/12/2009 10:52

Girl - Harper Lee. Love it!

singersgirl · 24/12/2009 11:12

Paul Simon has a son called Harper.

I just think of 'harping on' about things rather than playing the harp. It also looks sharp, like card sharper. Mais chacun a son gout.

MummyTumble · 24/12/2009 11:38

girl

caen · 24/12/2009 12:05

Boy and American. Harper Lee's first name was Nelle and Harper just a middle name. Didn't want to write as Nelle Lee for some reason

Doozie · 24/12/2009 12:52

Boy - but I'm with Bunny (although said a little gentler..)

TipsyFairydifferentID · 24/12/2009 12:54

boy, even though I know Harper Lee is female. It's the whole surname-as-first-name thingy I see as masculine.

Clary · 24/12/2009 16:47

interesting caen that it's a middle name. In US that often means a surname doesn't it (ie mum's maiden name)?

So it is a surname really. NTMT tbh tho I lurrrve the book and as a result seriously considered Atticus

spiderlight · 24/12/2009 23:21

Boy - we considered it for DS - but again despite absolutely loving To Kill a Mockingbird, I thought Harper Lee was a man!

Pugwall · 25/12/2009 22:40

I think clean-cut American boy or trendy English girl IYSWIM

Trafficcone · 25/12/2009 23:01

Girl, definitely!

edam · 25/12/2009 23:04

Girl because of TKAM. Didn't know it was actually her middle name.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 25/12/2009 23:25

Boy - I know a 2 year old called harper.
I think it is lovely

jasper · 25/12/2009 23:34

hamster

Squishabelle · 25/12/2009 23:59

Surname. Its not a proper first name.

lowrib · 27/12/2009 03:04

Girl, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a boy.

Kayzr · 27/12/2009 06:21

I would think of one of my best friends whose surname is Harper. Not very keen on it for a first name for either sex really.

SgtAngua · 27/12/2009 06:46

It,s DS3's middle name, given in the full knowledge that Harper Lee was a woman

Think it works for either a boy or a girl. Not offended if other people don't like it though.

nooka · 27/12/2009 06:56

The Canadian PM is called Steve Harper, and is the greyest, dullest man. I live in Canada at the moment so that's what comes to my mind. I wouldn't think it was a first name at all, but surnames as first names are quite common here for boys, so I expect I'd think it was a boy, and feel a bit sorry for him to be honest.
