first and Surnames with the same letters.

Would you give your DD a first name starting with the same letter of your Surname..

Ie Holly H...... ?

I like the name Holly but DH doesnt think we should as it would sound funny.

My own maiden name initials were CC.

I think it depends on the letter.

Catherine Coleman sounds better than Holly Harvey.

I think two Hs in a row is likely to sound a bit shit.

We know a Holly H. I think it's fine in her case, and Holly is a pretty but fairly sensible name. We are also H and have considered a couple of H first names for the next one if it's a girl - DH likes Honey , but because that's a bit twee (although quite pretty) I think the double H might be a step too far. So, I guess it depends what the name is.

we too know a Holly H and were both a bit but its not offensive or ridiclious iyswim?

this coming from the woman who uses her daughters MN as her name as I wouldn't give her D D as initials due to my ample norkage

As a general rule, I like double initials - Marilyn Monroe, Ronald Reagan, Robert Redford, erm.... Walt Whitman. Stuck now.

In short, go for it!

I would personally say no. My own maiden initials were the same - think jane jones but not and I hated having the same initials.

Have ruled out some lovely names for this reason.
But it's up to you!

As long as the surname and the first name don't sound very alike, go for it. Holly Hill/Hall/Anything with an L sound or anything that ends up rhyming with the last Y sound would be a bit much, but Holly Hunt, etc., would be fine.

know a Holly Hughes... think it's great! I actually think it's quite distinguished... in my working life people were always referred to by their initials, and I always thought those double ones were the coolest.

Having said that it does of course depend on the names... I do know a Colin Collins, and there was nearly a Martha Marshall.

Holly is a lovely name BTW - all the ones I have known are gorgeous!

I was going to ask the same....on our very long list of boys names is Benjamin, but we have a short B surname...Wondered if it was really good or a really bad idea??

Plus shortened Ben B....??

I'm inclined to say go for it...but then hormones do funny things to me and i question my sanity at times

it depends. I'd avoid Holly Harvey. What about Polly Harvey. Holly Harvey is quite hard to say. Two ls sounds a bit wishy washy. Ms and Ns sound a bit tongue-twisterish.

double Gs, Bs sound good though.

I like it. Both my mum and my brother have the same initials for first and surnames, never really thought of it as an issue other than being quite good.

Polly Harvey is PJ Harvey's name, in case that might bother you.

Thanks for the replys. Our surname doesnt sound like Holly at all. No L;s or Y's.

I will read these to DH to try and convince him.

I was an MM before I got married, and DS3 is HH.

Who cares what other people think, just go for it.

Our surname already makes us MM and we love names begining with M for a first name, didn't realise it was bad until I read this!

I love names with the same letter for first and second.

Our surname begins with G and I wanted Gabrielle (Gabby) G... DH didn't like it.

Holly H is good. Had 2 Holly H's in my year at school though so might be quite popular.

Our dd is MM; my father made a rude comment about it after she was born until I pointed out he was being a bit hypocritical as my maiden name was CK (both hard) so even though they weren't the same letter, they had the same sound...

I know a Holly H where the H is the name of a fish. It sounds a little odd imo.

Alliteration really doesn't bother me, but a former teacher I know gets really irritated with it. I wonder if it's an older generation thing.

I really wanted DD to be Hannah H but DH vetoed it outright. I think it is fine as long as they don't rhyme. I made a list of all the people I know in RL and famous people with the same intials and the list was huge. Didn't convince him at all
I walked into BF group when DD was very little and one of the other babies was Hannah and I said I really liked that name but DH wouldn't allow it as it gave her the intials HH and the next baby was Harry H obviously some people do have an issue with it but I don't.
Holly H sounds lovely.
