Would you give your DD a first name starting with the same letter of your Surname..

Ie Holly H...... ?

I like the name Holly but DH doesnt think we should as it would sound funny.

My own maiden name initials were CC.

Herring

Just didn't want to upset her if she self-googled cos she's lovely!

Ah I see.

Hope I haven't offended the Holly Haddocks of this world...

My married name begins with H and I am having to avoid first names that begin with H because I am from the north west so my family will drop both H's and it will sound ridiculous!

If our dc3 is a girl her initials will be BB which I think will actually be quite cool, I think on the whole it isn't a bad idea apart from certain wierd ones.

ja9 · 15/11/2009 20:30

we've done it with dd and i really like it (i'm a sucker for alliteration!)

However, i know bil and sil discounted the name we used as it didn't go with surname (same as ours).. so just down to tast i guess.

ludog · 17/11/2009 13:49

Our surname begins with C and two of our three dds have first names also beginning with C. TBH I liked both names and didn't really give the CC element much thought. I would say if you like the name then go for it.

crankytwanky · 17/11/2009 22:29

Ooh I really like alliterative names.

Sounds dynamic, IYSWIM.

People will remember your child's whole name.

Holly Hunter has two Hs and is a famous movie star. I always think double initials sound quite filmstarish. Holly Hunter, Marilyn Monroe, Robert Redford, Nanette Newman...

Ok, maybe not that last one!

busybutterfly · 19/11/2009 22:58

We deliberately ruled out first names that began with same letter as our surname (luckily we didn't like any anyway!) but ours is a much harsher consonant.

And funnily enough my maiden name initials were CC too!!

DrNortherner · 19/11/2009 23:00

Oooh I love a bit of aliteration. I am a DD and cod alitaerates too rather nicely. Go for it.
