Angela's Ashes

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 30/10/2009 19:43

Is that Angela's Ashes good? or Angela's Ashes bad?

at Pavlov. Nice to see you around.

I like it btw. I know one.

foxytocin · 30/10/2009 19:52

i've never read/seen children of the corn or angela's ashes so blissfully ignorant. still like it.

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 30/10/2009 19:54

Children of the corn, showing my age here

RomanCandleJollster · 30/10/2009 20:00

prefer Malachy personally which is the Irish version - think with an "i" it's Hebrew...

really like it.

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 30/10/2009 20:00

same age as many of my friends and aquaintances too though, including DH, i am sure he has seen it! i just have n't ever got round to it.

OP posts:
PavlovtheWitchesCat · 30/10/2009 20:01

oh there are two ways to spell it that makes it even harder!

teamcullen · 30/10/2009 20:02

The Malachi in Angelas Ashes was a sweet kid who everybody liked.

I like it, and its a good saints name if you plan to get him baptised.

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 30/10/2009 20:03

teamcullen - he is going to be baptised over christmas actually!

OP posts:
teamcullen · 30/10/2009 20:12

you are organised.

Saying that I took DS2 to church at 5 days old and asked the priest, when can you baptise him.

He was baptised at 7 weeks and I think the priest was over the moon to have a tiny baby rather than a 3yr old who needs to be "done" to get into our school.

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 30/10/2009 20:18

I am not organised. MIL is organised. We have meant to do it for a while, with DD, but never happened.

However, all the family are over from USA for christmas, 6 children of varying ages and MIL has spoken to the local church where DH grew up to see if was possible while we are all here, and they squeezed us in!

I love it. Both spellings. I would also say that they are pronounced differently: Malachi (Mal-a-kai) Malachy (Mal-ach-ee, or mal-ak-ee if you can't pronounce your chs ).

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 30/10/2009 20:23

I have mentioned it to couple of people who have both said 'like the stone?' no, that is malachite, but could be a problem no?

ATortoiseisBetterThanABlackCat · 30/10/2009 20:26

I love the name Malachy. Prefer it to Malachi pronounciation.

teamcullen · 30/10/2009 20:29

well done MIL that sounds lovely

mummyofevilprincesses · 30/10/2009 20:34

I thought of Children of the Corn too, but if Liz Hurley can call her boy Damien, why not.

I am now hearing Malachi in a scary voise in my head- I saw that film too young and it gave me nightmares!

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 30/10/2009 20:36

oh, now, see i like both sounding versions now. I had not considered Malachy with the 'ee' rather than 'eye'. Could it be spelt Malachi and pronounced 'ee'. If i spelt it 'i' and pronounced it 'ee' or 'eye' could people get it wrong all the time whatever pronunciation i use?

Oh maybe i will just go with John. Or Jon?

OP posts:
mrmump · 30/10/2009 20:44

Oh yes, children of the corn here too. Mal-ak-eye. very scary!

lalin · 30/10/2009 20:47

St. Malachy was the name of a school I attended for a short while a long time ago. Had not heard the name until recently when it suddenly seemed to be a really lovely boy's name here in Surrey. Know two and think it's gorgeous.

Penthesileia · 30/10/2009 20:48

Stately plump Buck Mulligan...
