Be open minded now
Edward and Edith are so popular now that I think it could work.

What do you think of Edna? Any middle name ideas?

Please no. MiL's name. Hate it.

PuppyMonkey · 29/10/2009 15:10

No.

Heated · 29/10/2009 15:12

It's Evil!

Edna Mavis
Edna Willow
Edna Moog

I heart that programme

sweetnitanitro · 29/10/2009 15:18

I'm really not sure about Edna, what about Edina instead?

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 29/10/2009 15:20

damn, I wanted to post the picture of Evil Edna.

Heated · 29/10/2009 15:44

I think you still can, IMoveTheStars another!

Sorry OP - OLC names are fab. Don't dislike it because of above associations but neither am I wowed.

BudaBones · 29/10/2009 15:46

No to Edna! yuck. Sorry.

My lovely next door neighbour here in Budapest is Edina!

headlessmocks · 29/10/2009 16:18

I liked evil TV Edna, hadn't thought of her.

Edina reminds me of Abfab

As in Dame?

No way! Mind you I may need to catch up with the times a bit.
i didn't realise that Edward ever went out of fashion or that Edith was ever back in!

halfcut · 29/10/2009 17:01

I sincerely hope not

MRSwereWOOLFhasabroomofherown · 29/10/2009 18:42

I might be thinking of the Mumsnet name finder, but my first thought was dinnerlady.

Edwina, however, is okay. Well, better at least.

LetThereBeRock · 29/10/2009 19:20

Not unless there's a mass outbreak of insanity amongst prospective parents. It's awful.

ZZZenAgain · 29/10/2009 19:22

no, no, really don't think it's going to sweep the country

I think Edna O'Brian when I hear the name and I like the excruciatingly funny scenes she builds into her novels sometimes.

To me it still sounds little old ladyish but maybe you're right OP, maybe it's coming back in. I've never come across a dc with that name yet, but so what if you like it?

DiamondHead · 29/10/2009 20:05

Are you sure it can have a comeback. Was it ever popular

Vivia · 29/10/2009 20:40

Ena is fabulous - a name like Georgina officially, then Ena as nn would be perfect.

I adore Elsa. It's softer and more elegant than Edna in my opinion.

Pinkcaz · 29/10/2009 20:45

Awww I was really hoping to read this thread and be taken by a woosh of positive thoughts about Edna... it's my Grans name and was thinking of it for a middle name... guess my case still isn't secure ;-)

MRSwereWOOLFhasabroomofherown · 29/10/2009 20:50

I've just checked the ONS stats. In 2007 there were 2 babies named Edna registered, in 2008 there were 4.

I think we're safe for a while yet, even if it continues to double every year!

Chynah · 29/10/2009 21:45

Makes me think of old grannies - sorry!

lalin · 29/10/2009 21:56

It is seriously awful, sorry. Millions of gorgeous, traditional, beautiful names. EDNA just doesn't sound the best name you could come up with for your beloved DD.

piscesmoon · 29/10/2009 21:59

I hope not!

daisy99divine · 29/10/2009 22:01

Oh, I differ, I LOVE Edna

Also Ethel - who about that as alternative? But especially if it's your gran's name - go for it!
