Looking for unusual (but not weird!) girls names!

Currently 36 weeks with a 90% certain girl...

DS is called Benjamin, although we only ever call him Ben.

We wouldn't mind going a little bit more off-piste with DD's name though.

So far the only name we both really like is Keira / Kyra, but we feel we'd like to explore the full availability of what's out there!

Definitely don't want a Grace / Evie / Lily / Madison type name, and not at all keen on the retro olde-worlde names like Margaret / Esme / Bridget.

I'd love to be cheeky enough to take names from fantasy books I like, but not sure I could get away with it... Names like Danyal (would always end up being called Daniel though...) Arya, Raven, etc, but it needs to be a really good one!

Any ideas?

My DD is Darcey which is unusual but not too weird.

Your own choice of name is perfect - I have one, except she's Kie instead of ei. It's a strong but pretty name and we've only every met one other in 5 years.

Lotster · 22/10/2009 20:52

How about Libby? I loved it but hubby vetoed for some reason!

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 22/10/2009 20:52

You could always spell it properly and go for Ciara.

I loving some of these names. Might have to print out this thread for when the next one comes along - convinced it'll be a girl even though not even pg yet!

Sunshinemummified · 23/10/2009 12:48

I love the name Marnie. Be tempted to use it if I ever had another girl but I know someone who has a really beautiful granddaughter called Marnie.

Lots of gorgeous names on here. I love Aurelia but also pleased to see you mention Arya - my favourite character in that series of books, a strong and capable girl - why not go with that, it's enough of a 'real name' and not so dragony to make people think you've nicked it from a fantasy novel

UnrequitedSkink · 30/10/2009 10:47

Lisbeth
Estella (always liked this since I read Great Expectations)
