Christmas themed names for a girl

dd2 is due on Xmas day, and DH & I are thinking of using a Christmas themed name as a middle name, or first name if she is born on 24th, 25th or 26th December.

We so far are aware of Hollie, Mary and Star, and that's about it

Personally I wouldn't choose another -ie sounding name as would find it too confusing How about a name that means something Christmassy? Like, XXX meaning 'gift'

belgo · 09/10/2009 13:40

Josephine

Scorps · 09/10/2009 13:42

I seem to like ie names...can you tell?

Not keen on Evie TBH, but Eve is sitting ok for a middle name. Seren very good for either, I'm thinking.

Hmm, now I am incredibly nosy intrigued, LilRed.

Eve or Natasha woudl go nicely with your other DCs names.

But not Eve if she arrives on 24th.

thedolly · 09/10/2009 14:02

How about Rowan as an alternative to Holly/Hollie?

pranma · 09/10/2009 14:14

Seren is gorgeous and not too obvious

sockmonkey · 09/10/2009 14:32

If you are wanting a christmas-y link, are there any famous folks born on christmas (Other than the obvious) who's name you could use?

Scorps · 09/10/2009 14:34

I think Einstein was born on Xmas day, wasn't he? I will google, may be interesting, thanks.

Add my vote to the many others than Seren sounds a beautiful and unusual name, appropriate but not corny.

Pyrocanthus · 09/10/2009 14:56

Can someone pronounce Seren for me please, I've not heard it before.

chimchar · 09/10/2009 15:20

say serr (as in sarah) and ren (as in the bird wren)

in welsh, the r is sort of rolled iykwim?

Pyrocanthus · 09/10/2009 15:42

Thank you!

bess23 · 09/10/2009 21:09

My dd is holly born Xmas eve, we chose her name because we love it and not just because she was a Xmas baby. I can honestly say no one on hearing her name has asked whether she was a Xmas baby. I think its a name people choose all year round, and we found it to be perfect for her.go with a name you love.

lola0109 · 09/10/2009 21:14

Gabrielle/Gabriella shortened to Gabby would suit other DC names.

I also know someone with the middle name Tinsel!

jacks1972 · 09/10/2009 21:33

Rosie Webster was born on Christmas Day!!! hahahaha

MiniMilk0610 · 09/10/2009 21:43

I know someone born on Christmas Day called Gabriella, not sure she's overly keen on it tho!

Fibilou · 11/10/2009 02:07

I absolutely adore Noëlle and desperately wanted it for our baby girl but DH said "I'm not having any child of mine called Christmas"

So that was that

jabberwocky · 11/10/2009 03:16

This is interesting. Ds2 was due December 15th and not a single mother-to-be on my antenatal thread considered a Christmas name

UnrequitedSkink · 11/10/2009 11:33

Have been reading a book called 'The Great Lover' (about Rupert Brook) and there is a (female) character in it called Noel, without any 'le' on the end. IMO it's a really lovely name for a girl. It must be an early 20th century name as Noel Streatfield (writer) was born around that time.

But agree that Seren is a brilliant name.

Kayzr · 11/10/2009 11:40

I love Seren.

Jabberwocky, DS2 was born on the 12th last year and non of us considered Xmas names. But I do know someone in rl that had her DD on the 24th and called her Eve just because she was born on Xmas Eve.

Georgimama · 11/10/2009 11:49

Gabriel?

mejon · 11/10/2009 13:19

As you have a Welsh connection how about Celyn (pr. Kellin) which is Welsh for Holly and not quite as obvious?
