Tobias or Jacob?

Hi everyone, help needed please!

Currently only 28 weeks so quite a while to argue decide about it yet but our top 2 at the moment are:

Tobias nn Toby
Jacob (I don't like nn Jake but DP does)

I personally prefer Tobias/Toby as really don't like Jake, but DP has "gone off" the name Tobias and now only likes Jacob/Jake...sure he's only doing it to annoy me!!

So any opionions please? Or any other suggestions as whilst I like Tobias/Toby I still don't really "love" it...ideally a name that shortens to 2 syllables/is 2 syllables or more already & doesn't easily shorten any further as DP has an annoying habit of shortening everything immediately!!

I like Tobias too. Don't really like Jacob/Jake at all I'm afraid.

My DS would have been a Tobias if I had had my way... unfortunately DH didn't like it because of Toby Jugs (who under 60 would have thought of that apart from him?!!!). Anyway, Toby is lovely, Tobias is utterly fabulous imo.

If DD had been a boy she would have been called Toby - I think its a lovely name. Other names I can think of along similiar lines to Jacob are Issac and Jonah?

Thanks everyone no idea who Toby Jugs is, lol, but going to try to resist looking it up if it might be off-putting!!

Will keep working on DP to use the name Tobias, hopefully he'll get worn down in the end he's not saying that he hates the name, infact he says he quite likes it, but just doesn't see his child being called it

Had already suggested Isaac as well but he doesn't like that...he's so difficult!!

We've got a Tobias - although in practice he's always Toby.

Your DP has similar taste to my DP! - I suggested Jacob, Isaac and Noah and he didn't like any! (Although he liked Graham, and while I mean no offence to any Grahams, it shows my DP has crap different taste in names!)

Toby is a lovely name.

Jonah is lovely iykwim...

Tobias sounds poncy imho, really don't like Toby, similarily Jacob is nice, Jake horrible (I apologies profusely to the 100 million mn'rs out there who I have just annoyed).

I like Jacob/Jake although hear of it being shortened to Jay and said 'jay-cub'. Toby is OK, don't like Tobias.

I like Jacob but not tobias or Toby

I like Adam, Nathan, Thomas & Matthew...but DP said no to all of them!! DP likes Dylan & Kieran but I'm not convinced...so difficult finding a name we both agree on!

My slight worry about Tobias is it might sound a bit poncy to some, but then in reality he will probably always be called Toby from the start which I do really like

I have a Jacob, and I'm always correcting people who insist on calling him Jake! Thankfully at school they use the full name. Ironically, I always call him a "little toby" when he's playing up. BUT it could be worse, my dad insists on calling him Jakey, which I have since learned is what Scottish people call tramps? Sorry, homeless people. But it is fun to say "Arh Jakers" in an Irish accent to him!

You could always try Tobias with a different pronounciation (as in northern Europe) - i.e. Tob'ee'as. Maybe DH will like it better that way (or not!).

i have a jacob - he was always a jacob when younger but as a teen and at school it got shortened - which allowed him his iwn identity i feel.

i like toby as a name. tobias is a bit pretentious imo

I too have Jacob and Isaac on my shortlist - Jacob has already been vetoed by DH, Have not played the Isaac card yet - may have to wait til after the baby is born, maybe I'll get my say then...!

I have Samuel and Thomas and Sam and Tom are nice names too for when older. THomas is becoming a Tom more often.

DP has ruled out Josiah & Nicholas already too...a lot of the names I suggest he responds with "too biblical" or "too traditional"

Ok so next question, if we go with Tobias/Toby, can we get away with just putting Toby on the birth certificate or is Tobias considered the "proper" name? I'm usually really for putting the traditional version of name on birth certificate but not quite sure about this one...??
