Is Astrid cool or cruel?

I've posted about Astrid before a while back (Astrid vs. Ingrid), so sorry if you saw that. DH had vetoed it on the grounds of the teasing/bullying potential of 'ass', but at the last minute has changed his mind (I have less than a week to go - hopefully!) Now I'm wavering slightly although I think I prefer it to Ingrid, still our only alternative. What do people think?

I love it. Kids will always find something to tease other kids about. If its not about the name it'll be something else. And I really don't think that Astrid will flash up as a good bullying opportunity name.

hannahsaunt · 23/09/2009 12:42

Love it.

Sparkletastic · 23/09/2009 12:42

cool

MrsFawlty · 23/09/2009 12:44

I like it, if had had a girl it was our top name for ages. I hadn't thought of the ass thing, so maybe no one else will? Sod it anyway, I got ripped at school for my name but it's cool and is now getting popular anyway. Def prefer to Ingrid (which we also liked.) HTH! (And hope all goes well, let us know what you go for!)

KleineMaus · 23/09/2009 12:46

Stripeyknickers you're probably right. I've given up worrying about the teasing potential of a boy's name as our surname is Noble and according to DH he'll get called knobs and no balls at secondary school anyway, just like DH and his brothers did!

Thanks Mrs Fawlty. Are you Sybil by any chance?

Love love LOVE it! Very very cool name!

LynetteScavo · 23/09/2009 12:53

I went to school with an Astrid.

It was the 80's and we used to shout Astriiiiiiiiid! (like Acid)

It's a cool name, though.

pofacedandproud · 23/09/2009 12:54

cool. Really like it.

pofacedandproud · 23/09/2009 12:55

Like Ingrid too. Very nice.

bigstripeytiger · 23/09/2009 12:58

I think that astrid is fine. It is an uncommon name, but not an odd one, IMO.

Prunerz · 23/09/2009 13:02

I know three Astrids. One is arty, one is a filmmaker and musician and v cool, and one is super brainy.
I love Ingrid too. They were both on my list.

MrsJohnDeere · 23/09/2009 13:06

Lovely. No idea as to cool rating though.

browntrout · 23/09/2009 13:32

have loved it for years. Had it in mind for DD2 (due in 6 weeks) but it was ruled out by DP. He later came round and said he liked it but by then I'd chosen something else! I think it has a really strong quality to it but is still pretty. Everyone who knows one says they are really cool (whatever that means...!) and, on the whole, very gorgeous.

tummytickler · 23/09/2009 13:38

Love it - ds has an Astrid in his class (7years) and she is never teased because of her name (or anything else).
I also know an Ingrid of 7 and she is cute as a button too.

TokenFemale · 23/09/2009 13:43

Love it

TheMightyToosh · 23/09/2009 13:46

Cool - very 60s IMO, reminds me of that girl who used to hand out with the Beatles (I think, or was it the Rolling Stones? Anyway, you get my drift)

minervaitalica · 23/09/2009 13:50

Looove Astrid. It's a common name for princesses in Belgium isn't it?

Not sure re: Ingrid... It reminds me of a very scary Swedish lady I used to know.

bellissima · 23/09/2009 13:52

cool. like it.

hambo · 23/09/2009 13:52

Love Astrid.

I might steal it!

(don't worry - not pregs and if I was it would be a boy...)

Squishabelle · 23/09/2009 13:54

Great name.

Squishabelle · 23/09/2009 13:54

Swedish isnt it?

Luxmum · 23/09/2009 15:01

I love it. It's going on my shortlist now (which now has over 40 names...)

said · 23/09/2009 16:19

I think it's dead cool but it does crop up a lot on mn if that bothers you. Don't know any in RL

VerityBrulee · 23/09/2009 16:21

I love it.
