I know Jo for short is quite popular. But I do not know of any Joanne's under the age of about 20!

I prefer Johanna (or Joanna) -bit less abrupt.

mathanxiety · 10/09/2009 15:19

How about Giovanna? I also like the Johanna version.

MrsBadger · 10/09/2009 15:55

I prefer Joanna too

the only Johannas I know are German and hence pronounced yo-hanna

Josephine?

akamummy · 10/09/2009 15:57

Joanne sounds a bit "council estate" to me, at the rsk of sounding snobby.
Joanna is nice. And Jo or Joey are nice nn

Joanna is my dd and I hated it[as did she]when people said 'Joanne' by mistake-what a difference an 'a' makes!!

MrsMc82 · 11/09/2009 17:11

I'm called joanne and despite not coming from a council estate i still hate being called by my full name and am ALWAYS called jo by EVERYONE.... as one of you said it just sounds so abrupt (oh and anyone who tries to call me joanna would get swiftly corrected too!) x

random · 11/09/2009 17:14

Oh my oh my ...'sounds a bit council estate'

akamummy · 11/09/2009 18:12

Well is does. Along with Stacey, Tracey, Bethany, Kelly, Debbie, Sharon, Nicola... I could go on.

random · 11/09/2009 18:20

Please don't.....

akamummy · 11/09/2009 18:25

MamaLazarou · 11/09/2009 18:39

There's nothing wrong with it... there are just 237,000,000 nicer and more interesting names in the world.

FritesMenthe · 11/09/2009 18:49

I like Joanna (like Julie/Julia - the 'a' makes all the difference).

mumzy · 11/09/2009 18:51

AuraofDora · 11/09/2009 18:53

andlipsticktoo · 11/09/2009 18:53

Yuk is my honest, instant reaction to it.

simplesusan · 11/09/2009 19:07

I know lots of older Joannes and a few Johannas and I always thought it would be nice to be a "Jo". Don't know many young ones though.

dogonpoints · 11/09/2009 19:17

I don't like joanne/joanna at all

PfftTheMagicDragon · 11/09/2009 19:18

Josephine?

slowreadingprogress · 11/09/2009 19:25

exactly, completely what mamalazarou said!

onlyanauntie · 11/09/2009 19:38

Cripes. I am Nicola, my best friend is Joanne, and I'm thinking of Bethany for my first baby in March....I must be true scum

I do live in a bit of a rough area oop north but do consider myself quite posh! Until now!

Nancy10 · 12/09/2009 20:37

Thanks for your replies! I think Josephine is lovely. Just thought Joanne and Joanna are names not really used now!

Joeymac · 16/09/2009 21:02

I'm called Joanne and I HATE it. I've always felt it was really chavvy (sorry I know it's not PC but hey it's my name so I can slag it off)and I so wish I had been called Josephine. From about the age of three I've been calling myself Joey and at work I'm Jo. Love Joey and Jo but from Josephine NOT Joanne.

crokky · 16/09/2009 21:12

PMSL at onlyanauntie saying she must be true scum.

I love Joanne, think it is a really nice name that isn't used that much these days. I think Joanna is nicer, but either fine really.

KAEKAE · 17/09/2009 13:49

Oi I am a Kelly and I am from no council estate! Infact I probably have more money than you and own a bigger house! lol.
