I know these names are v popular and so am a bit put off. Like simple names along these lines though. Middle name agreed as Thomas (family links). Really like Ben but that's taken by family... Any other suggestions? Please?!

Mark, Tim, James, Mike (Michael), Dane, Zane, Rick, Rob, Luke, Todd, Gus, Steve (Stephen), Will, Adam, Brett.

Paul!

clop · 30/08/2009 20:22

Kai, John, Joe ... ok, I'm shutting up now .

tummytickler · 30/08/2009 20:23

Sam, Jack, Thomas and Ben are REALLY the only names you like? Really? out of all the names that are out there?
They are all fine, but a bit dull.
If i had to go for one i would pick Sam as i like 'm' sounds in names.

What about
Bertram
Eric
ALbert
Andrew
Christain
Maxwell (Max)
Jonathan (Jonty)
Emmett
Henry
Luca

Sidge · 30/08/2009 20:32

How about

Gregory
Jonathan
Toby
Luke
Adam
Christopher
Nicholas

5inthebed · 30/08/2009 20:32

Please don't use Jack. There are far too many Jacks out there now (no offence to anyone who already has one).

Lucas
Dexter
Isaac
Edward

Thomas is lovely as a middle name. DS2 has Thomas as his middle name.

eth37 · 30/08/2009 20:35

Tummytickler they aren't the only names I like, but the only ones DH and I can agree on. I really like Max and Theo but DH doesn't... He likes Ethan and Ralph... I am not keen! Keep them coming!

I have a Ben and he is the only one in his class, there is also a Jack, again the only one. I love Sam too. What about James?

eth37 · 30/08/2009 20:43

Thanks, SIngleMum01. I am a primary teacher and actually have never taught any of those names so I am wondering if they really are that popular! I have, however (sorry) taught a couple of James's who stick in my mind for not particularly positive reasons...

Quite like Daniel too, and DH would agree to that. So far, the front runners are Sam, Daniel or Jack...

Sam, Jack, Ben, Daniel and William are popular because they're lovely names. If you love those names, why not use one? There's no point, as far as I can see, in choosing something you don't really like that much just for the sake of it being less popular.

SingleMum01 · 30/08/2009 20:47

How about Matthew? That's also a good solid name, I like biblical names.

eth37 · 30/08/2009 21:01

Glad you said that, Tidey! Yes, SingleMum01, like Matthew. Will run it past DH. I find girls names much easier!

DS2 is actually called Daniel Thomas

Phoenix · 30/08/2009 21:05

I've got Lewis and Noah

eth37 · 30/08/2009 21:06

That has a lovely ring to it, 5inthebed! Am wavering between Daniel Thomas and Sam Thomas atm. Does he get called 'Dan' a lot?

MaggieLeo · 30/08/2009 21:09

I like snappy one syllable names for boys too.

What about

Seth
Saul
Gus
Guy
Ross
Greg
Rob
Dom
Dan
Don

5inthebed · 30/08/2009 21:12

I called him Daniel, because I quite liked the nickname Danny. Then my SIL (who I can't stand) said the name and I hated it lol. So he gets Dan a lot, sometimes Dandan, sometimes DT and if he is really naughty he gets Daniel Thomas

eth37 · 30/08/2009 21:17

Phoenix love Noah. Used to go out with a Lewis so am not sure DH will go for it!

MaggieLeo like Seth a lot.

Think a lot of the prob is I can see a child/grown man with these names, but not a tiny baby!

Tidey · 30/08/2009 21:21

I would go for Samuel if the middle name is Thomas. It seems to flow better than just Sam Thomas.

eth37 · 30/08/2009 21:35

Hmm... DH is back from football. He is now stuck on Ralph or Henry... This is going to be tough!

OP posts:
Tidey · 30/08/2009 21:37

Henry is lovely too. Don't like Ralph I'm afraid.

jellybeans · 30/08/2009 21:39

I like short names for boys too..
Ben
Jake
Zac
Max
Kai
Niall
Ryan
Sean
Harry
Ross
Scott
Luke
Marcus
Nathan
Flynn
Joe
Joel
Tom
Leo
Fred
Ted

MaggieLeo · 30/08/2009 21:53

Ralph is slang for vomit though!!

What about Raff. I like Raff, or Raph, as a short form of Raphael. But Ralph!? Penis or vomit.

dogofpoints · 30/08/2009 22:05

Sam is great. I don't know any Sams

eth37 · 30/08/2009 22:14

I totally agree about Ralph.
Jellybeans - love Joel.
