Here is the list as it stands at the moment. We've not really discussed what we like the best etc but just trying to compile names we like! Opinions on these and any other suggestions welcome. We have a short surname if that matters (not that it really does to me!)

Charlotte
Eleanor
Erin
Jenna
Lara
Leah
Sophia
Zara

I like Zara and Leah very much. I'm a fan of two syllable names.

Sophia and Lara are quite nice.

Eleanor and Charlotte are nice but too plain for my liking.

I really don't like Erin (fake Irish) or Jenna (horrible).

Ella / Ellen / Eliza / Eva?
Xia
Soraya
Sariah
Liana

janeite · 26/08/2009 20:39

I like Charlotte and Eleanor a lot (though prefer Austen's Elinor spelling). Sophia is okay. I don't much like the others.

lljkk · 26/08/2009 20:40

They are all quite nice, imo .

LilRedWG · 26/08/2009 20:41

I like CHarlotte, Eleanor, Erin.

Not so keen on the others.

Leda · 26/08/2009 20:42

Lara is lovely.

MrsMattie · 26/08/2009 20:44

Laura?

bodiddly · 26/08/2009 20:46

I like Charlotte and Sophia out of your list!

ReneRusso · 26/08/2009 20:51

My favourites are Lara, Sophia and Eleanor.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 26/08/2009 20:55

Charlotte
Eleanor
Erin
Jenna
Lara
Leah
Sophia
Zara

The ones I like best are Eleanor, Leah and Sophia. There are so many Charlottes around here that I'm bored by the name, nice as it is.

How about

Leonora
Beatrice
Rowena
Miranda
Matilda
Henrietta

which are in a similar kind of vein?

Thunderduck · 26/08/2009 21:11

I love Charlotte,Eleanor,Erin and Sophia.

malung · 26/08/2009 21:30

Leonora is a really, truly lovely name. Old and established yet very underused so rarely heard.
It just sounds sooo beautiful when said outloud.

southernbelle77 · 27/08/2009 07:08

Thanks for all your replies! My favourites don't appear to be hated so that's good!!

Not too keen on any of the suggestions made (sorry ). Knew a Leonora once and she was so incredibly annoying that it has tarnished the name for me! Also, I know DH wouldn't go for any of them either!

Was saying the names to myself last night along side our surname and think I have ruled out Jenna and Erin as it doesn't sound 'right'! Also, as much as I like Lara, DH said something about it which makes me think he wouldn't like it with our surname!

So, any other suggestions?!

Cecily????????? I love it anyway

bellissima · 27/08/2009 08:53

Leonora just trying too hard. It's that extra syllable. Like Charlotte, Eleanor, Sophia. Others seem a bit curt to me (and Zara a shop). Lilian(ne)?

Hulababy · 27/08/2009 09:02

I prefer Sophia from OP.

I prefer Eleonora to Eleanor.

Charlotte- ok. I like Lottie as a nickname

Eleanor- fine. She'll probably be called Ellie though, so important you like that also.

Erin- not that keen

Jenna- isn't George Dubya's daughter called Jenna? That would put me off!

Lara- For some reason this elegant name makes me think of a full-throated songbird. Which is not a bad thing, I guess...

Leah- I know a couple of nice Leahs. Find the bible story of Leah being the plain one who has to be surruptitiously married off to Jacob, who then takes her out of duty when the only person he really wants is her younger, more beautiful, sister Rachael a bit off putting though. I've always thought it wasn't really surprising that Leah's kids resented Rachael's boys so much. Hmm- I'm overthinking this one. It's a good name apart from the story!

Sophia- ok but don't love. Prefer Sophie.

Zara- ok
