Lucy = pretty, timeless
Iris =my fave old aunt was an Iris, not popular around my way (havent heard it used for years, and then only on old ladies!)
Eve = nice but every class has one
Alice = nice but again they are everywhere and it makes me think of 2 really nasty/spoilt girls my DCs have grown up with !

(well you asked for reasons LOL )

Eve- beautiful, simple name. It has been on our list for both DS1 and 2
Iris - beautiful name, more unusual. On our list for DS2!
Don't like Alice (in wonderland) or Lucy (next doors sausage dog!). Sorry

Hassled · 15/08/2009 22:30

Alice, then Eve, then Lucy, then Iris. No rationale, just gut response.

pamelat · 15/08/2009 22:33

Eve seems popular with everyone?

scarletlilybug · 15/08/2009 22:34

Guess it depends on your surname to a certain extent. Anyway:

  1. Lucy - classic, pretty, feminine. Like the meaning "light".
  2. Alice - another classic, pretty name
  3. Eve - bit too "now"
  4. Iris - sounds like a gossipy old lady. Don't like.
pamelat · 15/08/2009 22:34

apart from with hat woman sorry, had not read them properly

Eve is pretty and safe.

Jeepers · 15/08/2009 22:36

Eve is very much dh's choice.

I prefer Alice and Lucy. I like Iris but we have agreed to drop it from the list - seems very much a love it or hate it name.

Iris - sooo pretty
Eve - love it, although friend is called this and hates it. She hates the 'where's Adam' comment and says at Christmas time everyone thinks they are funny and original when they say 'Happy Christmas Eve Eve'
Alice - pretty, prefer the Welsh spelling Alys
Lucy - don't like it when it is shortened to loose

tummytickler · 15/08/2009 22:38
  1. Iris - my 8 year old dd's name - always loved it, still yet to meet another, classic imo.
2, Alice - we loved this, but found that you cant have Iris and Alice as they sound to similar. Every Alice i have ever met has been lovely.
  1. Lucy - nice, but boring
  2. Eve - hate Evie passionately so this puts me off Eve. Love Eva though.
Yorky · 15/08/2009 22:39

Iris - Beeeeeeeeeeeecaaaarwzzze.... urrrrmmm...

To me "My friend Iris" gives me an image of someone bright (I suppose because of Iris Murdoch) but after that I don't know - she could be cool, classic, pretty, funky, studious, radical, conservative, shy, arty, sporty, sciency, a party animal, chic, fun loving, cute....??? - You see, it is a name that gives your little one freedom to 'be who she wants to be'!

Lucy and Eve all are lovely 'girly' names and Alice has a boho edge but Iris is a completely brilliant name to start life with! It is a name to paint with rather than to be painted with iyswim?

Paolosgirl · 15/08/2009 22:42

Which one did he want?

Wanderingsheep · 15/08/2009 22:44

Lucy or Iris.

Lucy is a lovely, pretty, classic name.

I like all of your names, tbh, although not very keen on Eve.

Fluffypoms · 15/08/2009 22:47

1,Lucy (its my name)
2,Alice
3,eve
4,Iris

Jeepers · 15/08/2009 22:47

He wants Eve. Relentlessly and unflexibly!
Conversation goes:

Me: how about this for a name
Him: No, I like Eve
Me: any other suggestions?
Him: Eve

repeat ad nauseam

ilovemydogandmrobama · 15/08/2009 22:51

Jeepers · 15/08/2009 22:52
