Aren't there enough girls with Grace and May and Rose as middle names?! Can we stop now?

A personal bug bear ...

Did I miss a law being passed that every family with a girl must use one of these as a middle name?

I mean they're pretty names, sure, but it's getting boring now!

Use your imagination people!!

When I was little all my mates had Louise as their middle name, these names are the Louise of the moment I reckon.

Rant over. As you were

I think Aitch is being precious and does not seem to dissociate the names from emotions.
They're not her names, they don't belong to her.
The original poster (who has not returned to the thread they created ) didn't say that they weren't nice names.

I don't give a rat's bottom about popular names, but I do agree that these names as middle names are overused.
If you can't think of a middle name or think they're "not used anyway" and pointless, then just don't use one at all. Why opt for one of those mentioned in the op.

Sensitive people shouldn't read name boards in case they get upset.

teddygirl23 · 08/08/2009 22:01

it seems to me that the above mentioned names are popular for a reason there lovely names, yes my dd has one of these names as a middle name no one else in are circle of friends has used the name although im sure when she goes to school there will be others. what matters the most is that to us we chose a beautifull name we loves, sure we could think of other less popular names but are they as nice, i think not. parents need to choose the names they love and as far as middle names are concerned especially does it really matter if a couple of other children share the name.

AitchTwoOh · 08/08/2009 22:01

lol. what did you call your kids?

Kaylo · 08/08/2009 22:02

megsophandemma my dd is Sophie Leigh too Great name!!!

My middle name is Lorraine. All my classmates were all either Louises or middlenamed Louises!!!

Definitely an eighties thing!

If/When I have another dd I have no idea what her name will be but I don't think I'll discount Grace or May/Mae or Rose as I love them all - I'll match middle to first name rather than set my heart on something I think.

xxx

AitchTwoOh · 08/08/2009 22:02

that to redshade, obv. i'm still reeling from being called sensitive.

dizzydixies · 08/08/2009 22:02

redshade - how can Aitch NOT be precious about the names she has chosen for her children? they are her children's names and although she doesn't own them she wouldn't have chosen them for her kids had she not felt strongly about them - therefore implying that naming her children after people she loved would imply some form of emotional association

I'm precious about the names I picked for my girls (some included on this thread) and I named them after loved ones so I admit I'm bloody precious about them

hunkermunker · 08/08/2009 22:03

Redshade, are your children called Lamp and Lightand?

hunkermunker · 08/08/2009 22:04

Or perhaps "Deadly", middle name "Night"?

dizzydixies · 08/08/2009 22:04

hunker but they're obviously bulb and torch

redshade · 08/08/2009 22:07

I'm assuming your children's names are connected to your user names as you seem to think mine are?

How childish.

I'm not going to reveal my childrens names, as many mumsnetters do not. I prefer anonymity.

hunkermunker · 08/08/2009 22:08

Yes, mine are Duncan Hunker and Monkey Munker.

Redshade, you're not being sensitive about your children's names, are you?

dizzydixies · 08/08/2009 22:09

of ffs redshade - don't take it so personally - if you're going to get upset maybe you shouldn't post on the names board

btw, I have no interest in what your kids are called. I am not childish and nor do I think that hunker or I seriously thought those were your kids names

now if you don't mind I'm off to put Dizzy and Dixie to bed

dizzydixies · 08/08/2009 22:10

oh shit hunker am sorry - I sent their cards muddled up as Monkey Hunker and Duncan Munker my bad, sorry

BikeRunSki · 08/08/2009 22:11

I am a 70s child and I have an "L" middle name but not Louise - how I wished it was!

DNiece is 5, and Rose in the middle, but it was my Granny's name.

DS is not James, Thomas or Edward!

AitchTwoOh · 08/08/2009 22:12

actually i fear that redshade has rather missed the point. it's not so much about my disliking the fact that some people clearly think my child's middle name and grandmother's first name isn't up to scratch, that's really not it.

i just think that it's mean to start a thread slagging off kids' names.

if someone is asking whether a name is likeable or not (prior to the birth of the child) then fair enough, say what you like, but you'll note that after another comes on to say they've chosen it for their child, people dial it back because they don't want to cause offence.

here, the OP is effectively posting to ALL of us whose daughters have these names and doing so with no regard to the possible hurt it will inevitably cause. i think that's shitty, is all.

dizzydixies · 08/08/2009 22:14

Aitch sweetie, you're being emotional again now off you pop and put Aitch, Two and Oh to bed please, its getting late

onepieceoflollipop · 08/08/2009 22:16

Don't forget to put Barbara, Louise and William to bed as well. (that was a "coded" message to Aitch btw)

hunkermunker · 08/08/2009 22:17

I agree with you, Aitch.

DS2's name in particular is often slated as "boring" - it's slipping down the popularity chart and I don't know another one his age (though I do know a couple who are older).

It's a family name though, so does that make it all right? Or does that just mean everyone in my family lacks imagination?!

His middle name is "due a comeback", apparently and "much more interesting than the short version".

DS1's first name is seldom on baby name threads (I haunt them, am fascinated by them ). His middle name is also not that common (though more so than his first name), but it is a family name too.

(I may have told small fibs about their names on this thread )

foxinsocks · 08/08/2009 22:20

how can you 'overuse' a farking name!

unless the entire population of London suddenly all become called the same thing, I don't believe you can call a name overused

and especially a middle name!

the only people who ever really know about people's middle names are the family and the passport office!

onepieceoflollipop · 08/08/2009 22:22

Lol at fis.

I have visions of a Public Service Announcement, and notices up at the Registry Office

"The following names have now run out and can no longer be used: "

foxinsocks · 08/08/2009 22:24

yeah I mean hell hunker, I'd hardly call Monkey boring

dizzydixies · 08/08/2009 22:25

lol fox

announcements over the tannoy at school

NervousNutty · 08/08/2009 22:26

I also don't get why people give a toss what other people name their children. It is nothing to do with anyone else.

Like when people post asking if a name is too popular, I mean does it matter ? If you like ti use it, if you aren't sure, then don't.

I think Grace, May and Rose are lovely names.

Fwiw, my dd's middle names are Amy and Eloise, and if no one says they love them then i will cry and cry , not.

foxinsocks · 08/08/2009 22:27

lol

yes, can you imagine at the registry office. No more Kates. We have 3 million Kates now. STOP WITH THE KATES. Cue lots of parents having to rethink.

hunkermunker · 08/08/2009 22:35

I think the only way you can overuse a name is if your name is

Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Bruce Jones.
