Aren't there enough girls with Grace and May and Rose as middle names?! Can we stop now?

A personal bug bear ...

Did I miss a law being passed that every family with a girl must use one of these as a middle name?

I mean they're pretty names, sure, but it's getting boring now!

Use your imagination people!!

When I was little all my mates had Louise as their middle name, these names are the Louise of the moment I reckon.

Rant over. As you were

Agree with pagwatch - i hardly know any one's middle names.

DD1's middle name is may or it will be once i register her . But its my mothers and grandmothers middle name hence why i chose it.

Nothing to do with lack of imagination just something nice to do for my mother really.

Hee hee I have my comeuppance right here on this thread!

HolidaysQueen says "It's the same with boys - lots of James and Thomas and Edward as middle names."

My DS's middle name is one of those! But in my defence it's a family name for me too

dd's middle name is katherine. but love rose grace and may !

PatTheHammer · 05/08/2009 08:28

DD's is Charlotte but we did really like Grace. Charlotte was a family name though.

I think they are all pretty and lots of people use May if their daughter was born in the month of May. Don't like the silent hyphen thing either, but each to their own!

I was born in '79 and mine is Marie too . Lots of Louise, Janes, Annes amongst my friends. And how popular was Claire as a first name? Everyone who I meet these days who is around my age is called Claire! Lovely name but it does get confusing for my poor DD when she asks 'who are we meeting today?' 'Oh, Which Claire?????'

MegSophandEmma · 05/08/2009 08:39

Pat my name is Clare Marie also born in '79

Schulte · 05/08/2009 08:52

lowrib so true thanks for pointing it out!

notsoteenagemum · 05/08/2009 09:20

Lowrib, when meeting people do you demand to know their full name? If not how on earth do you know this? I rarely reveal mine or my dcs middle names, mind your own business.

For those of you asking why bother with a middle name, I find them most useful when telling the DCs off..... Nothing like their 'Sunday name' to put the fear of God into them

bruffin · 05/08/2009 09:47

DD as May as a middle name, but that was after my Mum and Nan who both had May as a middle name.
Funny thing though my mum's birthday is actually May but her first name is Avril which means April

dizzydixies · 05/08/2009 09:58

really? it bothers you that much what other people use as their child's mn?

hughsieoxf · 05/08/2009 13:10

I was always jealous that my middle name was not Louise. It was a real club in my primary school!

FioFioFio · 05/08/2009 13:11

Mine is Jane

everyones was either jane or louise

BakewellTarts · 05/08/2009 13:18

Middle names ARE useful...2 members of my close family are known by their middle rather than their first name. Their choice as adults. So its well worth chosing a good un for your DC. FWIW I like all the middle names mentioned and if we chose to use one well our choice isn't it?

campion · 05/08/2009 14:56

I have a friend whose middle name is Christobel, which I think is lovely, but she doesn't and she was always cringeing with embarrassment about it. It definitely wasn't even on the radar when she was growing up. I couldn't convince her that my 'Anne' was v boring. ( At least I got the 'e'!)

SecretSlattern · 05/08/2009 17:31

Pat and Meg, I'm also a Clare but was born in '81. It must have been popular in the late 70's, ealry 80's because at school, there were 4 of us in the class all with the same name. I was obviously the special one though as mine doesn't have an 'i' in it whereas the other's did!

MegSophandEmma · 06/08/2009 16:51

Yes slattern thats what I used to think too Re: being special, due to having no 'i' in my name.

juneybean · 06/08/2009 16:56

Lol my cousin and I have Louise as ours

Ceolas · 06/08/2009 17:14

Well as it happens we have 3 DDs so far and none of them have ony of the names you mention as a middle name. They are all family names.

We are considering one of your list for our DC5 if it is a girl. Again another family name.

Why on earth do you care?

totalmisfit · 07/08/2009 18:14

i expect she cares because it's dull, dull, dull for everyone to have the same middle names.

giraffesCanRunA10k · 07/08/2009 18:19

I have the most unusual middle name in the world

Have never ever met anyone who has ever heard of the name before, let alone anyone called it. Coupled with a fairly unual first name it can be a nightmare. I do quite like it now but as child I so wanted to be a

X Anne
X Louise
X Elizabeth

NoGoodNicknamesLeft · 07/08/2009 18:23

Oh dear Lord, worry about your own children's names and middle names not other people's, for goodness sakes. I don't even KNOW any of my friends'/relatives' children's middle names.
