Thinking of using this as a middle name for DD - I love the meaning and would be naming her after her great aunt, but is it too middle aged lady?

Very true

silkcushion · 04/08/2009 22:06

my little girl (6 weeks old) is Eleri - so I vote for that. What's yr dd's first name?

Congratulations btw. In fact the only bit of Mejon's welsh message I understood was the last sentence with llongyfarchiadau in it. Feel very ashamed for remembering so little welsh

Heulwen is also lovely

Mammina · 04/08/2009 22:44

I do like Eleri but not sure it goes with first name (nor Heulwen actually!). First name is Greta - not exactly welsh but works in both languages

Greta is welsh migola.
Beth am Mallt? (The english would be Maud - little old ladyish too I suppose)

Greta Mallt sounds great!

Neu

Greta Miri.(pronounced Meeree)

Greta Mai is fab too (Although she wasn't born in May)

Pob lwc 'da babi newydd!

mejon · 04/08/2009 23:05

Well of course, Eleri is another very cool name . Greta is lovely btw (shame your DH isn't keen on Haf as that would work well).

babaaa · 04/08/2009 23:20

i think its beautiful! - i wanted to call my dd something simliar but it did not go wit surname v well !!!

Mammina · 05/08/2009 11:14

diolch mamas12. DH couldn't say Mallt! He says he wants it to be a name he can say properly - fair enough I suppose!
I like Miri, and Mai was my grandmother's name but our surname begins with M so don't think I can have an 'M'...?

just read last night about somebody called Heulwen being called Halloween at school, which has put me off slightly!

mamas12 · 05/08/2009 22:55

btw I know what you mean about pronounciation. My dds middle name is Grug and my english family are really confused with that one!

hellymelly · 05/08/2009 22:59

I really love Heulwen,it is beautiful, it doesn't make me think of old ladies, not that thinking of old ladies is too bad at all anyway!

Mammina · 06/08/2009 01:49

mamas12 i really wanted grug as middle name for dd but dh just didn't get it

No she wont hate you if you bring her up in Wales. She'll be annoyed if she lives anywhere else tho as she'll have to go through the rest of her life with people missprounouncing her name

pontynan · 09/08/2009 11:54

It's a lovely name and I don't think of it as an old ladies' name at all.
