I think Gabriel is a beautiful name. A leetle bit brave for me to use but that is only because I am a totally wet when it comes to names and tend to stick with the boringly conventional! Am always very admiring of Gabriels (and their parents) when I meet them.

rubyslippers · 28/07/2009 14:44

thanks - i LOVE it too but DH is wibbling ...

he has vetoed every other one of my choices so it is a wonder anything is on the list at all

Raphael is a bit like Gabriel.

I quite like both of 'em.

PuppyMonkey · 28/07/2009 14:48

Sorry, meant to do a smile then. Not a grin.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 28/07/2009 14:49

No you cannot have it.

It is the only name DH and i can agree on. DH loves it and I like it.

So its taken I am afraid, even if you are having yours before me

MovingOutOfBlighty · 28/07/2009 14:52

I know many many Gabriels, it is very popular in our area. Like it alot.

posieparkerinChina · 28/07/2009 14:53

I like Gabe for short too, go for it. Keep on and on, it's worked for all four of mine when DH wasn't sure!!! I convinced him of all the names and he started with a yuck with two of them!!!!

belgo · 28/07/2009 14:55

Raphael
Emmanual
Benedict
Bartholomew

stillstanding · 28/07/2009 14:57

Gabes are very sexy!

Reuben?

stillstanding · 28/07/2009 14:58

Ruby, what is your DH's suggestion so we can see where you are both coming from?

allyspice · 28/07/2009 15:03

There is a little boy in DDs class called Nathaniel - I think it's a lovely name.

Most people call him Nate though - also nice.

rubyslippers · 28/07/2009 15:52

thanks all

am @ Pavlov ...

belgo - Raphael is also on my list - DH has said under no circumstances

Nathaniel - like but too similar to my name

hmm - DH hasn't come up with anything but he just knows he isn't sure about Gabriel (or anything else i like )

i shouldn't have used Benjamin as DS's middle name as i love it so much

My DS was Gabriel. Well he was until I suggested it to DH. Then it clearly wasnt

He ended up being Joseph and whilst he is Joey to me now, his 'original' name will always be Gabriel!

Now we have another DS on the way and once more will not be able to agree on anything...

midnightexpress · 28/07/2009 16:03

My (purely hypothetical) DS3's name is Gabriel - I love it.

And I was going to suggest Raphael, which I also love, but which is a bit braver I think.

Rafferty
Xavier
Reuben

gladders · 28/07/2009 16:42

Noah?
Isaac?
rafe?
Nathan?

rubyslippers · 28/07/2009 17:34

i love all the suggestions on this thread

sadly, DH doesn't

and that is why there is one name on our shortlist

OP posts:
magbags · 28/07/2009 20:06

My dh vetoed Gabriel from our list too (ds due in a few weeks). On account of religious associations and apparently the baddy in heroes is called it. He also thinks Gabe sounds like gay. I dissagree with him whole heartedly and still really like it.

thisisyesterday · 28/07/2009 20:12

just use gabriel if it's the only one on the list!

we have a gabriel and he is scrummy (he should have been lars though!)

aaanyway, other names that i like are:

Xavier
Soren
Lars
Nico
Otto
Noam
Caius
Raphael
Fabian
Tobias
Lucien
Tristan
Linu s
Asa
Benedict
Josiah

what;s your other ds called?

ThingOne · 28/07/2009 20:41

Gabriel's a lovely name, as are many of the others on your thread. You've got ten weeks, and then six, to talk some sense into your DH .

rubyslippers · 28/07/2009 20:41

T a y l o r

it gets mixed reviews on MN

OP posts:
lilacpink · 28/07/2009 20:46

What would you shorten it to? As it's 3 syllables other children will look for a shortened version - Gaby?

I like it tho.
