Am I being a tad oversensitive?!

Have named my baby girl Anna, Annie for short.

However, it looks like she is going to have red hair and I am worried that she will be subjected to teasing at school!

Would anybody else consider changing her name, or am I being a tad over sensitive?! (Can't trust the hormones at the moment!!)

Sorry if I'm being dim, but why can't a redheaded girl be called Anna/Annie?

As in Annie the musical? I doubt most children have even heard of it. Anna and Annie are great names - and red is a brilliant hair colour - go for it!

as a voice of experience I know you get enough jokes about being ginger without your name adding to it!!

My daughter was meant to be Scarlett and then she popped out with masses of red curls....so I changed it!! now has a lovlier name anyway!!

Oh I love the name Annie and I wouldn't worry at all!!! It's a character from a much-loved musical. NOt a serial killer!

Honestly, red curls are fabulous, and the name Annie is fabulous, really quirky and pretty but not trying too hard.

If people make a connection, just say, 'yeah' with a dull face.

why don't you call her anna?

If she has red curly hair she'll be called Annie anyway but as maggie says, she is a fab character from a musical, it's not a terrible association

I totally disagree Hester - lots and lots of children still watch Annie ...'tis a great kids film that is still much loved by many.

Pointy has the best plan - if you don't like the association, just call her Anna

my daughter has a mass of red ringlets and is often reffered to as annie lol i think its sweet (although i am glad we didn't go with penelope)!! lol

DS would have been Anna/Annie if he had been a DD. I was DISSAPOINTED that he did not have red curls (mine is curly, my Dad's was red and curly; actually thought DS has red curls when he was born, then washed his hair when he was a few days old and relised it was blond hair with blood in. Gutted.). I never, ever, ever made the musical connection.

How is Annie short for Anna? It is longer!

Have also googled my DD's name (I obviously have too much time on my hands...) and it appears there is a series of novels about a woman with the same name, who is being tried for murdering her husband!!

Is it going to be curly and cut in a bowl cut - if not, don't worry, ha! I do prefer Anna to Annie though, classier. I imagine an Anna as classy, elegant and soft looking. I imagine an Annie as hard faced and rough! Can you guess I know an Annie!!

My Anna (18m) gets called Annie as a nn, initiated by ds (4) who used Annie from day one. No one so far has made an association with any characters in books or films but I do often get told what a lovely name she has.
