It consoled me slightly that she was wearing odd shoes, kept howling 'is it tuesdayyy?' and had tomato soup all round hr face,

mind you - DS1's name didn't really work......
I get more questions asking "is he/you/your DH Welsh" than I do about anything else

(well how was I to remember, having lived 5000 miles away for 2 1/2yrs and still only being just 21 that the shortened version of his name would be assumed to be Welsh by people back home.................)

Disenchanted3 · 21/07/2009 23:58

Yes, she was born at dawn

I actually didn't know it was a disney princess for ages so that didn't bother me!

FAQ, my DS2 does have a Welsh name, Easy to spell and fairly easy to pronouncem yet most people just look blank.

FAQtothefuture · 22/07/2009 00:03

well DS1's shortened name (which he currently prefers) is "Taf" or "Taffy" (he puts the latter on all his school work - completely his own decision). 5000 miles away in Zim no-one batted an eyelid at boys with a shortened name of "Taf" or "Taffy".........of course I never thought of the reaction in the UK

PotterVsCullen · 22/07/2009 00:13

Taffy is so cool!!

MamaLazarou · 22/07/2009 07:19

Poor lady, sounds like she is not well. People suffering from mental ill health can be very unthinking.

mrsradders · 22/07/2009 10:16

i don't think that it needs to be different to be commented, its just personal preference i try not to be judgmental in a negative way unless its obvious mum to be is being far too hormonal...thankfully others do the same for me x

i love the name but it is a litle unusual for me to use but thats the joy of it. x

MadameCastafiore · 22/07/2009 10:21

I think yu are being a bit cruel - she obviously had a mental illness and so proabably hasn't the same amount of tact as others would have.

And if I were you I would get used to people not saying anything or raising an eyebrow or doing a weird not smile kinda smile when you tell them your daughters name - it is the response you would get from me as I don't like it, my own personal taste, perfectly allowable, and I am not mentally ill.

MadameCastafiore · 22/07/2009 10:22

Shame there isn't more money or people bothered enough to help people like this, isn't there?

MovingOutOfBlighty · 22/07/2009 10:23

Named my dd something a bit off the wall too, so have been fully prepared for comments all her life! So far, people are more of the raised eyebrow variety.

My DD is OBSESSED with 'Aworwa' from Sleeping Beauty and would kill for your DDs name!

hercules1 · 22/07/2009 10:26

Fab name.

halfwittowin · 22/07/2009 10:26

It's a lovely name, was on my shortlist but didn't go with our surname according to OH.

franklymydear · 22/07/2009 10:27

I hope she doesn't grow up with a lisp

mamadiva · 22/07/2009 10:47

I don't like it but she is not my daughter so no skin off my nose, you go with names you like regardless of what anyone tells you

Then again my DS does have a rather dull name because anything remotely different was laughed at by DP's moronic intellectual family. So actually I am just jealous of you being able to use something different

With regards to the woman did anyone bother with her because it sounds as though she is mentally unsstable and could do with a bit of help rather than being laughed at! Poor lady.

Knickers0nMaHead · 22/07/2009 10:49

i think it is a lovely name. Someone said dd.s name was boring not so long ago.

TsarChasm · 22/07/2009 10:52

I love Aurora! (Sleeping Beauty)

It would def have been on my list of top names, but my surname has too many 'R's' in it and it wouldn't sound right with it.

tiredemma · 22/07/2009 10:52

'obviously unhinged'

nice.

She sounds as if she has some mental health issues, probably poor social skills- may have been her only way of making conversation.

MrsMattie · 22/07/2009 11:41

Aurora is absolutely gorgeous. I had it in my top 5 names for DD but DH vetoed. Great name. Lovely.

skidoodle · 22/07/2009 19:50

It's not a Disney princess name is it? It's the name of the princess in a ballet. Disney just nicked it.

suwoo · 22/07/2009 19:59

I love peoples reactions when they don't know what to say and are being polite. Someone asked me the other day what DS2 will be called. I replied Felix, and she said (after masking her look of shock) 'Is that with an F?'

I was like 'err yeah'

Fillyjonk · 23/07/2009 15:58

I LOVE the name Aurora

There is a fabulous fabulous set of children's books, set in norway, about a little girl called Aurora.

nickelbabe · 23/07/2009 16:05

It's a beautiful name.
the bus woman was just nuts.

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 23/07/2009 16:08

An old lady asked ds what his little sister's name was. When he replied she said, "Mary? How unusual!"

I mean, wtf? a) Mary isn't unusual and b) dd's name isn't Mary anyway!

Pikelit · 23/07/2009 16:19

Much prefer it to Dawn. Who ex's cousin lumbered their first child with because she arrived....yes, at dawn! Child hated it.

Arcadie · 23/07/2009 17:55

I LOVE the name!!!
