I think Bailey sounds like a boy.

I like Isla esp if there is a Caledonian connection.

Elizabeth - now there's a name due a comeback. Lots of lovely nns too - Bess, Beth, Betty, Libby.

Oh I see everybody agrees with me

Pingpong · 17/07/2009 12:52

I agree with the majority.
Like Isla, like Elizabeth and lots of nn potential.
I prefer Rebecca to Rebekah.
Bailey not good, Annalise okay ish but reminds me of dizzy blonde in Neighbours.
Valentina and Marissa not my cup of tea.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 17/07/2009 13:35

Annelise - dislike a fair bit, reminds me of neighbours.

Bailey - I know one who is a girl, seems wrong and I don't like it at all.

Isla - lovely

Elizabeth- lovely

Valentina - not keen

Marissa- dislike

Rebekah - like a lot if spelled Rebecca.

sockmonster · 17/07/2009 19:06

Annelise- nope
Bailey- chav central, alcoholic beverage
Isla- too common now, means island and pronounced is-la by any spanish speaker
Elizabeth- classic, will look best on a cv
Valentina- I like it a lot but if not italian/spanish/russian etc it will seem a bit false and pretentious
Marissa- it's a bit saccharine
Rebekah- I know a Rebekah who hates her name, hates explaining the original hebrew spelling etc etc.. complains constantly about it!

I know someone with your surname named Kristina (sp?), which I'm not suggesting, but I think it sounds good with the surname.

Definite NO to Isla, Bailey, Annelise, from me

hunkermunker · 17/07/2009 19:08

Annelise - prefer Annalise [Neighbours]
Bailey - over ice
Isla - St Clair
Elizabeth - lovely
Valentina - Harris and no
Marissa - meh
Rebekah - why not spell it Rebecca?

HerHonesty · 17/07/2009 19:16

all nice names bar bailey. sounds like a dogs name imo. isla a bit common now. annalise very nice. elizabeth nice. rest ok but not bad.

Lancelottie · 17/07/2009 19:17

Look, you lot, my daughter likes being the only one in her school, so will you all stop agreeing that her name is quite so lovely??

DebiNewberry · 17/07/2009 19:18

Annelise
Bailey
Isla pretty but very popular
Elizabeth very MN-approved type name but also a bit meh
Valentina lovely but I wonder about the nn potential
Marissa
Rebekah

seeker · 17/07/2009 19:19

Bailey is bad enough for a boy - it's just silly for a girl.

The others are OK - but prefer Elise to Annelise and Rebecca to Rebekah.

sweetfall · 17/07/2009 19:19

Bailey is a boy's name

MadEyeballsMoody · 17/07/2009 19:21

Annelise - bearable if it was the last name on earth, just.
Bailey - my aunt's big dog and a drink surely?
Isla - ok
Elizabeth - lovely, classic and loads of possible nn
Valentina - lovely
Marissa - meh
Rebekah - lovely but prefer the other spelling.

LaDiDaDi · 17/07/2009 20:26

Annelise - I know two and both just get called Anna
Bailey - don't like at all
Isla - not sure and becoming very popular
Elizabeth - lovely
Valentina -my favourite of your choices, very pretty
Marissa - no because it reminds me of a particular individual
Rebekah -nice though I prefer Rebecca

PestoSoggyMonster · 17/07/2009 20:28

Annelise - that girl off Neighbours
Bailey - nooooo
Isla - very Scottish
Elizabeth - too conventional
Valentina - lovely, lovely lovely
Marissa - too hissy
Rebekah - too peculiar spelling

GreenMeadows · 11/05/2012 19:44

Many people mistakenly think the spelling "Rebekah" is "the Biblical spelling." However, the spelling ?Rebecca? is also Biblical, and is an even older Biblical spelling than ?Rebekah.? The ancient Latin Vulgate version of the Bible from the 4th Century A.D. was the Bible that was used for centuries. The Latin Vulgate uses the spelling "Rebecca" exclusively. Centuries later, when the Bible was translated into English in the year 1611 (King James Version), the spelling was changed to "Rebekah" for the Old Testament, BUT the spelling "Rebecca" was retained in the New Testament (see Romans 9:10 King James Version). So both spellings are Biblical, but "Rebecca" is the older Biblical spelling. // Here is a link to an online version of the Latin Vulgate showing "Rebecca" in Genesis 49:31. www.latinvulgate.com/verse.aspx?t=0&b=1&c=49

abbypumpkin · 11/05/2012 20:08

I love Rebekah and Isla.

thrillahkillah · 11/05/2012 20:19

Annelise - no. Multiple spellings and pronunciations, it'll be annoying.
Bailey - HELL no. unless her siblings are called Sherry, Cherry-Brandy and Advocaat... and you don't mind her being mistaken for a boy on class lists.
Isla - nice
Elizabeth - nice, lots of nice nicknames too.
Valentina - beautiful
Marissa - nahhh.
Rebekah - spelling will haunt her. prefer Rebecca but not my fave name.

Jojay · 11/05/2012 20:27

< The op was posted 2 years ago. I expect she's decided by now.......>

But I hope she didn't choose Bailey Grin

NorbertDentressangle · 11/05/2012 20:37

Annelise -OK at a push

Bailey - don't like at all (DD met a Bailey recently at her new school and I have to confess to wearing my judgy pants as to what Bailey would be like. Turns out she isn't as 'chavvy' as the name suggests at all but, unfortunately that's the image the name suggests to me)

Isla -like it

Elizabeth - OK, classic name, not to my taste but inoffensive.

Valentina -OK-ish but would be shortened to Val which I don't

Marissa -name doesn't flow or sound right somehow?? Too 'ssssss'?

Rebekah -see Elizabeth

NorbertDentressangle · 11/05/2012 20:38

Oh bloody hell, X posted with my very slow and well thought out response only to find its an old thread.

MarySA · 11/05/2012 20:58

Annelise - OK Pretty but too unusual for me
Bailey - Awful
Isla - Nice
Elizabeth - Very nice
Valentina - not keen
Marissa - don't like
Rebekah - too common.

ChakotayBlue · 11/05/2012 21:00

Bailey or Isla IMHO

MummysLittleSunbeams · 11/05/2012 22:28

Why is everybody answering a question asked 3 years ago?? Hmm

ragged · 11/05/2012 22:31

Annelise: I just do not like. Anna is fine, Lisa is fine. Together, meh.
Bailey: Know several boys with this name, and dogs
Isla: fine, uber-popular, are you even Scottish?
Elizabeth: boring compared to your others (but fine)
Valentina: probably my fave
Marissa : good too
Rebekah: fine, but I'd go for the conventional spelling

BBQJuly · 12/05/2012 00:20

Annelise - like, very pretty
Bailey - too alcoholic
Isla - faddy
Elizabeth - classic but dull
Valentina - pretty, sounds Mediterranean
Marissa - like, also Melissa
Rebekah - like but prefer Rebecca spelling

BBQJuly · 12/05/2012 00:21
