I can live with it being pretentiou but is it a bit too Jilly Cooper?

Love those books - fab names - Octavia, Lysander etc

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Do you pronounce it per-ditta or per-deeta?

ilovetochat · 15/07/2009 21:22

wasnt it a dog in 101 dalmations, with pongo? thats what it makes me think of sorry

ArcticLemming · 15/07/2009 21:25

Nice name, but I don't like the fact it means "lost"

clemette · 15/07/2009 21:25

that Perdita, Octavia and Lysander make you think of Jilly Cooper and not Shakespeare...

Momdeguerre · 15/07/2009 21:25

Yup, think it was a dog in the film! Can think of far worse links for a name!

Love the abbreviation Perdie and Dita - pronnounced per-dee-ta.

I love it! I love all Jilly Cooper names though....

Momdeguerre · 15/07/2009 21:26

Don't mind a bit of Shakespeare but they were not half as good to read on holiday!

slackrunner · 15/07/2009 21:27

I think it's a really pretty name, but I don't like the meaning (it means 'lost' or 'The Lost One'). Depends on how much emphasis you place on name meanings I guess.

PotterVsCullen · 15/07/2009 21:29

Perdie - A cats name
Dita - Burlesque act
Perdita - lovely in Shakespeare, but not so in the Jilly Cooper way.

MaggieBeBold · 15/07/2009 21:29

I think she would be born wearing pearl earrings, and those navy gucci snaffle loafers that haven't been made for 15 yrs

MrsBadger · 15/07/2009 21:30

Dita is a good nn too

Momdeguerre · 15/07/2009 21:37

Meant to be a bit of a nod to DH's french family whose surname is lost in French and sounds similar so I don't mind the meaning.

Maggie - you have just described what I am wearing! !

It makes me think of the dalmation mum in 101 Dalmations.

Also, Dita (von Teese): the fake-titted skank.

skihorse · 16/07/2009 09:36

Love it.

mamaLazarou Hallelujah! Someone else sees her for what she is! There's nothing big or clever about wearing your scants in public!

Boodlerpoop · 16/07/2009 09:47

Makes me think of that column in Sunday Times Style magazine....can't remember the name of it, have nappy head..

boodleboot · 16/07/2009 13:54

I like Perdita. Perdie is a lovely nickname and makes me think of kittens purring....

BIG thumbs up

LilRedWG · 16/07/2009 13:57

Reminds me of Agnes Nitt from the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. Hates her name so starts calling herself Perdita X and wearing black nail varnish.

DebiNewberry · 16/07/2009 13:58

good.

LadyPinkofPinkerton · 16/07/2009 14:01

Friend of mine has a sister called Perdita.

Also love the other names

Bleatblurt · 16/07/2009 14:03

Was just about to post what LilRedWG said.

mumof2222222222222222boys · 16/07/2009 14:17

A friend of a friend has just called her baby perdita. They are not short of a bob or 2!

sockmonster · 17/07/2009 20:35

It means lost, I cannot get over that association. It's not a good meaning for a child's name!

Sounds like someone trying to sound clever and unique and coming across as a pretentious brit who has no clue what they have called their own child.

TheMysticMasseuse · 17/07/2009 20:38

It means loss (as in blood loss, discharge) in italian. sorry, i thought you should know
