elsie- is it too old ladyish ?

i really like the name and its my dps grans name and my nan is called elseba ( she's from the faroe islands ) so its kind of short for that too ! what do u all think ? x

I love it and it was going to be both of our DS' name if they were girls.

Actually, my only regret in having 2 lovely boys is that I never got to use it.

thanks everyone for your input not a bad word said so i am very pleased ! seems that its getting quite common with a lot of ppl saying they know new elsies but doesn't bother me too much and i think its sounds nice with my dds name phoebe ! phoebe and elsie lovely ! xxx

My friend's DD is Elsie. I wasn't sure when first introduced, but Elsie is so gorgeous and sweet and funny that I'm completely converted

You have to have at least one dissenter. The only Elsie I know IRL is my octagenarian mother (named after her aunt). She hates her name. Her middle name was even worse though....never call your child after its aunts!

I know one - and I think it's lovely. Elseba is even better imo - esp with a family link - and you could use Elsie as an abbreviation

It's incredibly old lady. But then so are so many popular names now. Elsie and Mabel and Doris and Ruby and Ivy: to me they all conjure up ancient crones with bad dyed hair, too much bright red lipstick, and wrinkles as deep as the San Andreas Fault.

They were all my great-aunts.

But I guess for all you young things out there, they lack these connotations. So if you like it, do it.
