Nicholas- thoughts?

So I think Nicholas is the current one that DH doesn't despise, but I'm not 100% sold on any name at the moment---- what are your thoughts on Nicholas? I think what's putting me off is the horror of him being named 'nicky' at any point in his life...?

I like it, might have used it if it weren't a family name. I don't think he would be Nicky, he will be Nick though.

My ds's middle name is Nicolas - we spelt it the french way as FIL is French and this is how BIL's name is spelt.

Everyone calls BIL NIc, never Nicky.

I like it. Dd has 3 Nicholas's in her year (they are 12). One is always Nicholas, one is Nick, one is Nico, none is Nicky.

I like it. My brother is Nicholas, he did go through a stage of being Nicky but now prefers Nick as he is 19.

OK I think it is the front-runner- which spelling do you prefer? I prefer Nicolas as I speak spanish/italian but DH says NO if he has to be 'knickerless' it has to be with an 'h'

I really like it but couldn't use it as had already been used by a close relative.

He would probably be called Nick by his friends which is fine.

Its a lovely classic name.

Fab name - and they don't get called Nicky unless you decide that is what their nickname (ho ho) should be. It's DS1's name and he is a Nick, could have been a Nico but never a Nicky.

Nick is OK with me, I only know big grown-up Nicks and they're all thoroughly nice chaps! Nicky, however, not OK....

Funny, all the Nicks I know are pretty clean cut thoroughly nice chaps as well!

I like it but do think 'knickerless'. Will prob get Nick though.

My brother is Nick. From an early age he said that his name was Nick not Nicky. The worst he was called (by us) was Tin Bum.

He was called Nicky as a child but I think that that was parental choice, he is def a Nick now, only called Nicky by me

Yep, I've got one- He's known as Nicky at the moment, (he was named after Nicky Wire from the Manic Street Preachers), but I'm sure that will change as he gets older, he's only 13 weeks at the moment.
By the way, yes, I'm well aware that it's a bit sad to name your child after an ageing rock star, particularly one who wears a skirt regularly...

ds1 is called nicholas ,he gets called nick ,hes never been called nicky/nickerless,hes now 19

Love it, my only reservation is, if you don't like Nicky it's hard to have a two syllable abbreviation for the toddler years. It somehow sounds wrong to be saying 'Nick' to a tiddler. still you can always call him tiddles or poppet or honeybun...

DS1 is also a Nicholas, although more usually Nick (named after Nick Cave) He's 11 so in the middle of Sprouts and Anathema's, but I think that shows it's a bit of a classic really

He was Nick as a baby, we've never called him Nicky (maybe ratfink a few times...) At push he's been Nikos/Nikola (Cypriot background)

Fab name. Our ds middle name. Named after my dad, my grandmother calls my dad nicky.Everyone else calls him nick.(he is 52 lol)
