I like it (I know one) - but call her Lucy.

It makes me want to SHOUT.

Not really. But it does make me think of her.

Similar in style to Lola, neither of which I find very elegant for a girl.

Call her Lucy and use Lulu as a nickname.

hmm...used to be a big fan of the perfume LouLou and used to want to be called that...

but, possibly in this case might be better to go for louise or louisa and use lulu/ loulou....

now there is a first...generally I am not a fan of giving one name but solely calling by another...lol

what about as for a nn for Luella - I like that

I think Lulu is lovely, I work in a nursery and I haven't heard it for years. I think it's nice for a child to have an unusual name.

Yeah, he does like Lulu. I'm loving it more and more. I think we may have found our name... if it's a girl of course! Only a couple of days to wait.

I like it, but definately call her Lucy or Louisa and use it as a nn.
Our dd is called Pearl and we call her Lulu quite often as a nn (pearl turned to Pearlie turned to Pearlula turned to Lulu), so i am sure you could make it a nn for loads of names with an 'l' in them somewhere!

Anymore for Lulu? I wouldn't use it as a NN - it would be her full name.

if she hates her name and feels it lacks gravitas, i will change it back to Lucy for her
we changed it by deed poll to lulu about 12 months ago as she had been called Lulu rather than lucy from about 2 days old

we had a tony in number 10. that is hardly a name bursting with seriousness

I like it - I have a Lucy and I call her Lulu as one of many nn's. Know someone who recently called their dd Lulu, was struck by how lovely I thought it sounded... dh never would have gone for it though...

Lucienne is a different first name that is often shortened to Lulu if you have second thoughts about lulu has a first name.

I have a horror of cutesy names for girls - they will be adults for much longer than they are children.

I think Lulu is lovely as a name in it's own right (not just as a nn), and not cutesy at all. It makes me think of Lulu Guinness, so i think it sounds quite elegant.

I think it's good that people have a mix of sensible, classic and unusual names, not everyone is going to be a lawyer or politician!

i think Lulu is really lovely and doesn't sound like a non name. again i think of Lulu guiness when i hear of it.....and man i love those bags....

We gave dd2 a more "traditional" name but like lulumama's daughter she has been known by the cuter version since she was very tiny. She wouldn't even know her real name tbh (it's not lulu/lucy btw but a bit similar)

Sometimes I think we should have just given her the shorter form, but it is a name like MrsB says might become a bit cutesy. If she wants to change back to her more sensible name when she is older then that would be fine with us.

In this case I absolutely love the name Lulu though.

I'm sorry to me it sounds a bit like a pet's name...or a cabaret performer.. imagine if she works in a customer service environment when she's older and having to give her name to customers 50 times a day. She'd had to laugh off jokes about Lulu the singer about 40 times a day.
