I love the name, but I'm getting mixed opinions!

I think it's lovely!

It's an ancient Celtic name, isn't it?

LetThereBeRock · 29/07/2011 18:36

This thread is over two years old. I'm sure the OP has chosen a name by now.Grin

LaWeasel · 29/07/2011 18:36

I really love it.

But I don't really give a stuff what other people think about names/if anyone thinks it's chavvy. Since anyone who judges people by their name (aka, something they had no choice over) is clearly a complete idiot.

THAT'S IT! MN MARK ZOMBIE THREADS NOW PLEASE.

Mowlem · 29/07/2011 22:22

Before I had children, I loved the name Kai - but my only exposure to the name was through the philosopher Kai Nielson (who is anything but chavvy). Unfortunately though I don't think I'd use it now because of other people's associations with the name. Shame really, because I do think it is a lovely name.

Depends if you want a name that means food, as well as the verb 'to eat'. That's what it means in Maori, and in NZ is a well known word that most people know the meaning of.

PGTip · 30/07/2011 10:43

Hate it! Looks like you've pulled 3 scrabble tiles out of a bag and done your best with them.

Nightstar · 30/07/2011 11:00

I would wonder what it was short for

don't like it much

ZZZenAgain · 30/07/2011 13:58

Isn't there a Kai in the Snow Queen - Gerda and Kai (or am I getting mixed up)? I wouldn't class it as chav personally but I don't like it much

superjobee · 30/07/2011 14:06

chavvy and always makes me think kaiser so in my mind its hitler-y! ridiculous i know but there we go

bibbitybobbityhat · 30/07/2011 14:08

I know two Kais. They are both mixed race. Their parents could not be LESS chavvy if they tried. Extremely middle class professional families.

Tolalola · 30/07/2011 14:12

No, sorry.

mathanxiety · 30/07/2011 17:14

I think it's the Corey of the '10s.

tigermummy35 · 30/07/2011 19:42

Wyane Rooney's kid is called Kai.................

SharperSeven · 30/07/2011 22:48

Vile chav name

MirandaGoshawk · 30/07/2011 22:52

I used to like it. Post-Rooney, not any more.

PurveyorOfBaloney · 30/07/2011 22:52

MN rule No. 15. 90% of people will not have read the Baby Name thread through before posting (especially in the case of a supposed chav name)

BodyUnknown · 31/07/2011 19:41

It has a terrible reputation for being a 'chav' name, and you could say the celebrity parents of Kais are not particularly inspiring. To me, it just sounds like it is short for something (I know a Kyran who goes by Ky) and on paper it looks unfinished. Perhaps you might like the meaning, but I don't think 'well, it means either fire or water' sounds great either.

TillyIpswitch · 01/08/2011 02:20

Grin at the Mum of a Kai bumping this old thread.

It starts with the dreaded 'K', so it was on the back foot to begin with...

Leena78 · 01/08/2011 16:42

Kai is lovely
