How many Jacks do you know?

I'm aware it's been number 1 on the names list for years now but I don't actually know any LO's called Jack and the couple of baby friends I asked didn't either.

In case you hadn't guessed I really like this name but with 1 DS called what seems like the most popular name in our area right now (Harry ) I'm loathe to choose another one even more popular even though it's the only one we both like!!
Any thoughts?

TitsalinaBumsquash · 02/06/2009 23:04

My DS is called Jack, he is in Nursery and he is one of 3 Jacks.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 02/06/2009 23:04

Same as Wrinklytum

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 02/06/2009 23:05

too bloomin' many - they are everywhere, friends of the millions of Harrys and Lukes (or Luek variants - Lucas, Luka, Luca etc)

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 02/06/2009 23:07

hold on whilst I open my mouth to change feet - just seen your DS1 is a Harry. Sorry.

lechat - thanks, I was lurking hoping to be forgiven!

funnypeculiar · 02/06/2009 23:19

Three: 7yrs,5 yrs and 9 months

Otoh, ds has a very common (top 10 every year) name, and I only know one other by his name in all my mates/school mates/playgroup friends etc etc ...

hulabula · 03/06/2009 09:47

3 in my ds's reception year of 35. Yes, it is very popular!

macana · 03/06/2009 10:17

DS has it as his middle name, and despite it being so popular, I don't actually know any personally.

Even if I did, it's a fab name, so if you like it, go for it. It goes really well with Harry - both short, simple, strong masculine names.

katylou25 · 03/06/2009 10:50

Well my ds1 is Harry, and ds2 is Jack and although they're both very popular names we know no others!!

bagpuss · 03/06/2009 10:52

I know about 3.

suwoo · 03/06/2009 10:55

Three in DD's class of 25 (year 2). Know of 3 others all pre-school.

jellybeans · 03/06/2009 11:03

There are loads of them. At least one in every class at DDs schools, usually 2 or 3. Still, if you like it go for it.

thisisyesterday · 03/06/2009 11:07

i know 4

littlelamb · 03/06/2009 11:09

I know 1. I think it's one of those names that you assume is popular but never actually meet anyone by that name. It's all Harrys and Joshuas around here

iwouldgoouttonight · 03/06/2009 11:09

I'd still use it if you like it. Nice names are always going to be quite popular. We chose quite an old fashioned name that I thought was quite unusual and now there are five in DS's nursery! I only know one Jack though - he's 4. Wondering whether people are using it a bit less now because it was so popular in the last few years, so there might not be as many new baby Jacks (just my theory!).

MrsGokWan · 03/06/2009 12:46

There is 2 in DS2's Nursery (attached to school), 4 in Reception, 3 in year 1 and in DS1's year 2 friends there is 2. I have heard it among the older children as well (nativities, school sports day etc.)

Was chatting to the girls at Nursery yesterday about what will happen when DC3 starts there in April and the manager was saying that at the moment they will have 5 Harrys, 6 Jacks, 4 Henrys, 6 Mathews and 4 Timothys starting

crokky · 03/06/2009 12:54

It's a nice name, that's why it's popular - so if you like it, use it! It's more popular in certain places - there are 50 kids at my DS's nursery - only one called Jack, but 4 called Josh.
