Thoughts on Astrid please? Too much like aphid? Too close to vauxhall astra?
Like it? Hate it?

Thanks!

we made the mistake of talking to people about the names we considered and peoples opinion made us not chose the name we both originally wanted so if you like the name i say go for it! it always ends up suiting the child anyway.
Personally i like it, its interesting and not like all the common names out there at the moment... go for it!
When is baby 'astrid' due?

sockmonster · 25/05/2009 19:12

Not for a while yet but last time made the mistake of not naming dd until she was a few months old, didn't want a repeat of hormone induced indecisiveness!
I agree people can be easily put off a name, I like to be anonymously forearmed if that makes sense, so if MNers hate it, but I choose to use it, I will expect my family/friends to think I chose a duff name too!

I kind of like it but I can't decide if it's too much like asteroid as well, or a bit overly scandinavian which I am not at all.
Argh it's funny there is no name that I actually love at the moment for dc2

I like it.
Doesn't have any connotations to it for me.

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 25/05/2009 19:14

I like Astrid Have you considered Astor?

thisisyesterday · 25/05/2009 19:15

i love it, tis on my list for db3 is it's a girl

pasturesnew · 25/05/2009 19:16

Like it, there was a nice girl at school with that name, I think her dad was South American as her brother was called Gustavo, if I remember correctly.

Disenchanted3 · 25/05/2009 19:16

Love,

shavenhaven · 25/05/2009 19:16

is astrid not a 80's mosturiser in a blue pot?

Horton · 25/05/2009 19:17

I really like Astrid. Lovely and unusual and pretty without being barking or trying too hard. A big thumbs up from me.

sockmonster · 25/05/2009 19:18

oh dear shavenhaven I hope not! Never trust a moisturiser in a blue pot!

shavenhaven · 25/05/2009 19:21

i might be totally wrong

will need to ask my mum now next time i call her.

auntierissy · 25/05/2009 19:24

I love it, it sounds a bit Spacey, but in a good way...

Bumperlicioso · 25/05/2009 20:17

Moisturiser is Astral IIRC

Bizarrely enough I was contemplating Astrid earlier today. Even more bizarre since I'm not pg! I like it though.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 25/05/2009 20:27

I like astrid.

peppapig3 · 25/05/2009 20:36

No that keen really- sounds a bit harsh to me and not v feminine. Prefer Isadora on your other thread!!

LoveBuckets · 26/05/2009 18:40

Love it, like the girl in White Oleander (her mum was Ingrid which I also like.) Also google Astrid Gilberto, v cool lady.

nkf · 26/05/2009 18:41

I don't like it. Not sure why. The ending in D is harsh somehow.

Thunderduck · 26/05/2009 19:07

I don't really like it. It sounds too harsh to me.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 26/05/2009 19:13

Love it!

wotulookinat · 26/05/2009 19:17

I do like it. I used to know a girl called Asta, and that's nice too, but she got called Astra and Vauxhall a lot.

PacificDogwood · 26/05/2009 19:20

I love Astrid - however have heard people worrying about rude school boy taunts involving "astride" IYKWIM... Not sure whether this actually happens or whether names/initials sometimes get overthought.

wotulookinat · 26/05/2009 19:22

That's like my DH when he rules out Flora for a girl. He said boys would say she spreads easily. I would never have thought of that.

audley · 26/05/2009 20:01

I knew an Astraea, pn as-tre-a a name which I always admired

boodleboot · 26/05/2009 20:39

a 2nd cousin is called Astir which i think is really pretty and less harsh sounding IMO than Astrid.....

screamingabdab · 26/05/2009 21:09

Well, I believe [modest emoticon] that I may have introduced Astrid to MN, so of course I love it.

I told a friend who has an Astrid I would put it out there.
