Recently posted a boys list on here and received lots of helpful feedback. Have got around to the girls now. They are a bit unusual as DH has a preference for less popular names and also has some Spanish and Greek blood in him! Here goes:

Paloma
Penelope
Aurora
Ariadne
Allegra
Elodie
Aurelia
Dulcie
Lydia

There are quite a few still- more like a long list really!!

Elodie is my favorite name but I can't have it because doesn't sit with our surname at all.

You have it for me!

MrsMattie · 22/05/2009 19:36

Paloma is gorgeous. Penelope was near the top of my girl's list, but now that I've seen Paloma... (We're having a boy this time though)

Oh, thank you for liking lockets! I think it's so pretty but everyone on here seem to just think of the car!

I like Lydia - very sweet, although the name of the youngest sister in Pride and Prejudice (was a bit of a flirt then ran away with Mr. Whickham - might not be the best namesake)

nooka · 23/05/2009 06:37

Ariadne is lovely, I know two, one adult and one 10 year old. Both Greek in heritage, and both always known by their full names. Otherwise Penelope (makes me think of Just Good Friends - that Penny was an excellent character IMO). The others are just OK to me.

sophieandbelly · 23/05/2009 06:41

elodie is cute

not keen on the rest

sleepyhead3 · 23/05/2009 20:39

Allegra - fecking car

Elodie - porn star wanna be name

Aurelia - ffs

Dulcie - whatever

Lydia - there ya go - a proper name

numal · 23/05/2009 21:13

Allegra is a gorgeous name.
There won't be an other in her class. Feminine, strong and sounds so beautiful in any language.
Nobody over 50 has ever heard of the car! Go for Allegra.

hester · 23/05/2009 21:13

Allegra and Lydia are both lovely.

ohdearwhatamess · 23/05/2009 21:26

Like Elodie and Lydia. Don't like the others.

ScummyMummy · 23/05/2009 21:28

Lydia

janeite · 23/05/2009 21:29

I like Lydia and Ariadne - don't like the others.

peppapig3 · 23/05/2009 21:46

Custy, you are funny! I see you don't approve but they are all 'proper' names, ie not made up. Not everyone likes/ has the cultural background for typical 'English' names!

If you wanted Spanish names, how about Amalia, Amara or even Serafina. Any good ??

peppapig3 · 25/05/2009 12:19

Those are really lovely sleepy- thx. Especially like Amalia and have added it to the list.

I love Penelope, Elodie, Allegra and Lydia (couple there I wanted to use but we chose something else in the end).

peppapig3 · 25/05/2009 12:29

Can I ask what you did use instead TwenthiethC? Only if you don't mind me being nosey!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 26/05/2009 20:20

We called her Andromeda in the end. I was a bit unsure about something unusual but I love it to bits and it's perfect.

Penelope we loved, and I had wanted Lydia for ages but a friend called her DD Lydia and I didn't want to steal it.

peppapig3 · 27/05/2009 11:05

Wow! Andromeda is lovely TwentiethC! Do you find that people react positively to her name or do you get lots of raised eyebrows?
