Hahahahaha!

MrsStig · 16/05/2009 22:47

I like it.

Would use it for my own DS, but I do really like it.

gigglewitch · 16/05/2009 22:48

like, baby bear*
I hope you jest.

FairMidden · 16/05/2009 22:49

No no no.

mollymawk · 16/05/2009 22:49

You are not alone. I remember another thread about this name.

GrimmaTheNome · 16/05/2009 22:52

Um. I suppose it just about works if your surname is something like Grylls. But definitely avoid if the surname is Ramsbottom.

diedandgonetodevon · 16/05/2009 22:53

Only ever heard of it as a girls name not a boys name. Bit wacky but a nice nn for a boy.

(before someone shouts Bear Grylls it's not his real name IIRC)

LolaTheShowgirl · 16/05/2009 22:53

Inf act, I have some middle names to go with it already.

Bear Elliot
Bear Noah
Bear Jonah
Bear Elias
Bear Isaac
Bear Isaiah

DD was at pre-school with a boy always known as Bear, but that was a nickname for Edward. Naming a boy Bear is (in my view) cruel and self-indulgent. Edward, however, is a fine name.

weebump · 16/05/2009 22:54

Surely it's Grylls nick name, not his real name. Don't do it!

MrsMcCluskey · 16/05/2009 22:54

How about
Bear bum?

LolaTheShowgirl · 16/05/2009 22:55

Weeeell my surname is realllly silly and wouldn't go with Bear at all but if i'm married and have a DS...

mollymawk · 16/05/2009 22:56

Wow, actually there are two threads on this name - can't do links though! I learnt from one of the threads that Bear Grylls is really called Edward.

beautifulbubbles · 16/05/2009 22:56

What about Ted (as a nn for Edward or just 'ted') I love ted

LolaTheShowgirl · 16/05/2009 23:03

Edward is just not to my taste. It has to be Bear.

louiserogers · 11/07/2009 17:08

my son is proudly named Bear!

becklespeckle · 11/07/2009 17:12

I like Bear, its lovely for a little one and could be called Ted as he gets older if he prefers

louiserogers · 11/07/2009 17:17

His middles names are Edward Alexander and yes is he hates his name he can use what he wants. He is such a happy confident outdoors child that it reall was a great choice for him.

bronze · 11/07/2009 17:20

Bear Grylls isnt really called bear

Louise you have Bear Edward?
I have Edward Bear but hes fluffy and sat on my wardrobe. As in the bear of very little brain who has a piglet friend

janeite · 11/07/2009 17:20

I think it's silly. But cute as a nn for Edward (love Edward).

bronze · 11/07/2009 17:20

doh realied it was an old thread when Lola was on it

Scorpette · 11/07/2009 21:23

Bear is silly, sorry. I've just googled Bear Grylls and his 3 sons are called Jesse, which is fine (although you'd get called 'a big jessie' round our way), but the other two are called MARMADUKE and HUCKLEBERRY! Nice.

Tortington · 11/07/2009 21:24

it's great only with a sibling called fudge monkey

ConstantlyCooking · 11/07/2009 21:37

very common in Sweden (the Swedish for bear is bjorn hence bjorn borg and bjorn in Abba)

NanaJo · 12/07/2009 04:44

Bear Naked
Bear Necessity
Bear Lee

etc etc

Please, don't do it. Or use it as a middle name if you really must.
