Will check in again in the morning. Night all!

frAKKINPannikin · 15/05/2009 21:38

Does he look at all like a Patrick?

jellybeans · 15/05/2009 21:53

Dara...not keen
Bran...not keen
Gabriel...not keen
Patrick.....OK, hate Pat though
Felix..OK
Hugh...dislike
Niall...love it

I like Niall best. Great name. Unusual but not weird.

Patrick is nice but all the ones I know get Pat.

I also like Nathan, Ryan and Sean.

theboyneedsaname · 15/05/2009 22:32

Had to help DP cook an authentic curry - still not ready!

I will show him this thread and I think we will go for Patrick - it has been near the no.1 spot all along.

'New baby' as we've been calling him could carry the name well, too, so yes, he does look like a Patrick.

DP thinks you have to see the baby first to be sure of what to call it.

Hmm, quite 'manly' sounding! (As opposed to Gabriel and Dara which DP thinks are too soft).

Thanks all.

Dara- nice, not heard it before
Bran- not keen, breakfast cereal
Gabriel- ok
Patrick- nice if kept as Patrick and not shortened
Felix- my fave of your list, really nice
Hugh- cute and nice
Niall- know a noce guy called Niall but not keen on the name itself and he always gets called neil must be annoying

stephla · 15/05/2009 22:44

I think you need to think like the cruellest 8 year old when choosing a name.

Gabriel us a lovely name but it will become "Gay" at school and your child will curse you.

I have a friend who has a daughter who is "Dara". If it does "cross over", again, your child may not thank you.

Hugh will become Huge if there is any tendency to porkiness

Bran will keep you regular..

Niall is harmless but I think Patrick Felix or Felix Patrick is best.

VinegarTits · 15/05/2009 22:49

My ds1 is Patrick, its my fav name

Pingpong · 15/05/2009 22:51

I like Hugh best, then Niall, then Patrick.

Agree with OP's DH that Gabriel and Dara are too soft.

I thought Niall was pronounce Neil unless of course you are watching Frazier when it's Nile.
I know a few Nialls that are Neils IYKWIM

theboyneedsaname · 15/05/2009 23:13

DP's name is Neal, so Niall might be too close (esp if pronounced as 'Neil', although he'd probably like him named after him).

I do like it but think it would be too confusing.

Be thankful. In Ireland he would be shortened to Patsy or Packie

theboyneedsaname · 17/05/2009 23:05

We have announced his name to our families and it is:

Patrick Sean Robert

Quite relieved it is done now and your input really helped.

No way is he going to be called Patsy or Pat! Might go for Paddy or Patch though.

Thanks all.

Thats lovely!

screamingabdab · 18/05/2009 08:38

Yay !

Lovely name

seeker · 18/05/2009 10:36

Lovely name!

I hope he's as funny, loving and enchanting as my Patrick.

Mine is called Patrick, Pat, Patch, PJ, Patio (his best friend - they both think this is the funniest joke anyone's ever made)) very occasionally Paddy, P, or even Rick, depending on his mood or the company he's in. To his Irish family, he's Little Pat, in honour of his Grandad who was Big Pat.

thell · 18/05/2009 11:16

Lovely!
I really like Patch as a nickname.

loler · 18/05/2009 11:30

Lovely name - by far the best of the list

Our Patch just happened. We were going to shorten to Paddy but it never really happened.

May he enjoy his name!

seeker · 18/05/2009 11:49

It's funny, my dd started calling her baby brother Patch when he was born and she was 5. We thought she had invented it until I discovered Mumsnet!

Sunshinemummy · 18/05/2009 11:52

I like Gabriel, Patrick (Paddy) and Felix.

TheFallenMadonna · 18/05/2009 20:18

Oh fab, fab name.

You have excellent taste

bumptwitkknocker · 03/06/2009 12:10

I like Dara, Hugh and Gabriel.

Gattina83 · 04/06/2009 01:06

Tadhg (pronounced tad or taig)
Connor (sounds lovely in irish accent but awful in essex accent!)
Malachy is cool too
I like Bran although people might think it's short for something like brandon
I knew a Ben short for Benedict

AuntyAnna · 04/06/2009 04:06

Great choice
